I am 10 weeks into my weight loss and have lost 25lbs. My fill is at 3.0 and the scales have stopped for the last 2 weeks. HELP! I am not over eating, in fact my band is good and tight.

You are totally normal. We all have plateaus. Sometimes our bodies are restoring some of the Water weight we lost right after surgery, sometimes we're losing fat but gaining heavier muscle, sometimes our metabolisms need to readjust to lower calorie intake. Keep doing whatever you're doing -- eating less, exercising -- and more weight loss will definitely follow. All of us who have been banded for, say, half a year or longer are testament to that. I'm certain our veterans of a year or more will have some encouraging words for you! Congratulations on the 25 lb. loss.

I am not the expert since I haven't been banded yet but have dieted many times. Have you checked your measurements? You may be gaining muscle while you are losing fat so no net loss but you will see the difference in inches.

As hard as it is , try and not let the scale dictate to you your success. Focus on the other possitive things that have happened since banded life has started 10 weeks ago. Inches are just as great to lose as pounds. I went from a size 16 to a 12 with minimal pounds lost, it was mainly inches and from a size 12 to a 10 with a 3 lb loss.. It is frustrating not seeing the scale move, I would get on the scale everyday in the beginning but since June of 2004, 3 months after my surgery I made a promise to myself to only weigh myself once a week ( mondays) It works for me, I see a loss some weeks and other weeks I dont but I do not get discouraged becasue I know Iam doing the right things. Think possitive , it will happen :)

Hi there

I had exactly the same experience, I lost 39IBS in the first 8 weeks and then stopped losing. At 11 weeks I had my 1st fill and thought this was the answer to my prayers however I did not start losing again for another 2 weeks, then hey presto another 4 pounds off. Dont let it get you down, I convinced myself that I would not lose anymore and started having doubts about the op and whether the band was tight enough, its just one of those things I think we all go through at some stage.

Good luck

I got into that slump too, #1 I wasn't eating enough, your body really does hold onto your food, be it good or bad calories, also I had gained 12 lbs of muscle. Stay off the scales, they can be your worst enemy. Do like Katie did on the Today show, take a hammer to it and get you the ones that measure muscle.

Good luck!

Dont' worry the scale will move soon enough, we all have been there, I too am one of those compulsive weigher, at morning and night, I've finally stopped and only weigh myself about every three days, helps my mood more. I haven't lost anymore, but atleast I'm not gaining. Well good luck, as I am in the same boat.

Thanks Pat, I must admit I am a scales addict and probably weigh nearly every day, how am I ever going to be able to leave bad habits behind ?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
