I am scheduled for my surgery in a week yayyyyy :success1: I am scheduled for a henia repair and lapband. I have a incarcerated umbillical hernia. I saw the surgeon yesterday for my pre-op, and he told me he wants me to have a upper GI before the surgery, in case I have a hiatal hernia. He said if I have one, he will fix it (evidently it must be fixed first, before the lap band) and do the lapband. He said he will save the other hernia for later.

I am not all that thrilled with this, since the umbilical hernia is causing me pain. I really don't want to press the issue, though, since I am going self pay with the lapband. I am paying a bit less for it because of insurance paying for the hernia surgery. I tried to pin the doctor down to which surgery he will do first. I told him I really want the lap band to be done. He would not commit to which procedure he will do first

I have had 2 previous hernia surgeries, and he pretty much told me he is expecting this to be a difficult procedure, due to scar tissue and implanted mesh.

I am soooo worried I will wake up to find out the band was not placed  This would be heartbreaking to me...especially since this whole hernia surgery thing started when I went in for a lapband consult <sigh>

I go for my GI Monday morning....I guess I can just hope there is no hiatal hernia...this will (hopefully) make things somewhat easier.

Hi I had an umbilical hernia repaired with the LapBand Surgery.

I would not worry about it. Everything went well. That was on April 21st. I am still waiting for my 1st fill & it has been hard.

My 1st fill is next week & I can't wait.

Good luck with your upcoming surgery. You will be fine.

Jeanette

I remember right before my surgery I read a post about someone who when in for surgery for the band and woke up w/o because of scar tissue from having gallbladder taken out. I knew right then and there that that was what was going to happen to me. I so paranoid. But luckily they gave me happy drugs and I forgot about it. You'll get your band, no worries. I have the hiatial hernia thing and my dr didn't repair it at all. But he did say that my liver was still large (even after losing 30lb and following 10 day liquid diet to the "T"!!!) and I ended up with a bruised spleen. But I still had my band...happy girl was I. And so you shall be..

I had the same thing had the GI swallow pre-surgery then my surgeon repaired my hernia and placed the band at the same time which he said is common procedure in lapbands. I also had my gallbladder removed 15 years ago and 5 years ago had 2 hernias repaired.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
