Hi All

I wanted to join up. I got banded on 19 May in Dublin and had my first fill on 16 June (5.5mls). I've found the month between surgery and fill very hard and frustrating with the weight loss really really slow. Anyone else have this problem in the beginning?

Thanks

LM

welcome to the neighborhood. i work in san antonio, texas and we've several ibm consultants from dublin. charming folks.

hope you enjoy the frienships you'll form here.

since my insurance made me do 6 months doctor-supervised diet prior to approving the band, i had already dealt with a lot of that "first month frustration" that you have dealt with. that 6 months i thought was a curse turned out to be a real blessing.

wish you much success and many of your own blessings on your journey.

Hi there. I found the first 2/3 weeks great as I was fortunate to have restriction from the swelling. Then the week or two before the fill weight loss stopped totally. After the fill I had great loss for the first week or so and it dwindled again. After my second fill I have begun losing steadily. It feels slow but it really isn't. I have just hit 3 stone loss and I was banded 4 months ago next week. It feels like forever since the surgery but it isn't and I know it will take time. We all wanted an instant fix, especially after going through so much, but that doesn't happen. It will still take time.

You will see a small improvement after each fill until you get to your optimum fill and then you will see steady progress.

Best of luck.

Hi Lauren May, Welcome to LBT!! Unlike you I didnt find the month between the op and first fill too bad but the month between the first and second fill was a killer. You seemed to have got a really big first fill. Where did you get the band done? How are you feeling now?

Elsie

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
