Hi Everybody,

I am a happily married mom of 3, and I have been struggling with my weight for 8 years now (I gained a lot of weight with my first child, and there it stayed). I have tried all the diets, and spent a ton of money only to fail a short time later!

I found out that my insurance, Tri-Care, approves the lap-band procedure 4 days ago. Since then I have made an appointment to go to the seminar this next Wednesday, and the nurse said I could be done with everything in about 4 weeks. HOLY MOLY I am so ready!!!:rolleyes2:

Hello and Welcome to LBT

That's wonderful news and it's great your insurance will pay for it. I had BCBS of Minnesota and they paid for it as well. It's the best thing I have ever done :smile2:

Good luck :rolleyes2:

Dustydolls,

I am so happy for you. I too have three kids and struggled with weight after children. I would lose weight just to regain it all back. I remember the first time I read reviews on the band and I knew it was for me from that moment on. It was a challenge getting through all the insurance stuff but i can tell you it was worth every minute of it. I was banded 3/18/08 and have now lost 45 pounds. I go up and down a pound but never more and continue to lose regularly. The band is the best thing that I have ever done for myself and for my family because now I will be around a lot long. I have even started going to the gym since Jan 08 in prep for my surgery and I love to go even to today. You may want to start some kind of exercise program as well because I think it helps you recover faster.

Wish you the very best and hope it goes quickly for you.

Dont let the insurance stuff get you down.

Hugs

Paula:thumbup:

Hi, that is so wonderful! I to am so excited, uhc covers the surgery too and i've already gone to the seminar and i have the consultation on the 3rd. I have all my paperwork in hand, labs, echo, sleep study, stress test, medically needed letter. lol I want to make sure that they submit all of this to the insurance company that day so i wont have to wait for them to tell me what i need from my dr. office. i hope to get a surgery date if all is well and start my preop labs real soon.

Hi Dustysdoll,

Wow, you can have your surgery in a month? Lucky girl! I'm a Tri-Care patient, too, but my doctor wanted so many tests that it took from early February until the end of April to get them all done. Then I got to see my surgeon for the first time, and he said it was a go for today (June 19). That was a 6 week wait. He's a busy guy! Then I got bronchitis, and last week, since I still had a cough, he said no surgery until July 3. So sad! Today should have been my day, but I know it will be worth the wait. The cough is getting better, so I'm sure it will be a "GO" two weeks from today.

Well, i hope that it takes about a month, thats why i have all my labs and studies in hand so that they can submit to the insurance company for the code that is needed for the go ahead.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
