New to site and the decision

Recommended Posts

Hey. I posted yesterday, but this is my real introduction to this group and all of you. I'm about 75 lbs overweight and have been on a diet of some sort for 25 years. I continue to struggle and have recently learned about the lapband. It sure seems to work, but isn't magic. All of you are working really hard to get healthy. I wonder if I could do it.

HI,

I was banded in Tijuana, Mexico Jan 25/08. So far I'm down around 40 lbs. I was a bmi of around 35 and have a total of about 75 lbs to lose as well. I wish I could have done this 25 yrs ago! I am so happy with my results and with the power of having control over my eating for once without the hopelessness of dieting.

good luck with your decision.

I another one who had 75-80 lb to lose and had been trying to lose it for my entire life. I hated exercise and always gained my weight back. I just don't think that's happening this time. I'm not a crazy fitness freak now, but I do get out and try to ride my bike 10-12 miles a day, and it's so much easier to do now I am near goal and have built up those leg muscles. You can do it if you really want it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
