I am 19 months post op. It hurts like heck I paid cash for my surgery with absolutely no support from the drs. I paid for an american surgery instead of going to mexico I want it removed they are not even telling me if they will and how much more they are going to charge for it. Does anyone know where I can get this done? I would prefer to go to mexico as I have already spent more money than I should have. I am down 13lbs in 19 months 325 to 312 as of this morning Please help if I can keep one person from making the mistake I made please let me know I will gladly give you all details. If you must do it at least go to mexico and save 10 grand.

I am sorry the band has not worked well for you. Can you please tell us a little more about your situation?

Have you found any restriction? Do you know how many calories you are taking in on average? Are you exercising? What did your doctors say?

First of all - Why did you feel you had to post two identical posts on here back to back? One would suffice to get your point across.

I'm sorry you've had a bad experience, but it sounds like you are advocating Mexican surgeons to me. I have an American Surgeon and love both him and his staff. They have been wonderful to me. I wouldn't go to Mexico if you paid me, but that's my personal decision and opinion. If I had an emergency, there is no one local that knows of my band and health history. Also, it is expensive for me to fly, get a hotel, be away from work and my children for days on end for follow ups.

Of course I could be wrong (doubtful). It would help if you'd give more information rather than just stating that the band was a mistake.

I hope you can find a resolution and get better.

Sorry you are not having success........ my first thought would be have you even had a fill? Second have you tried to work on a plan that would allow the band to help you.

If you want support, this is the place to come, but I'm sorry you won't find much support for Band Bashing here.. as I LOVE my band, but we all are different and have different experiences.

The cool thing about it is that you can turn it off and on with fills.

If you are in pain is that because you are not chewing your food or eating too fast?

Much more info is needed if you want advice on how to remedy your situation.

GOOD LUCK

I'm a bit skeptical about this post. Almost sounds like an advert to look across the border for a surgeon to get a better job done IMHO.

If you only lost 13lbs in more than a year and a half then there is something wrong...I know that we can't compare weight loss but I lost that much on my pre-op diet before the band was even placed.

There is either a problem with your band (have you had it checked for proper placement, leakage or any other problems? have you had proper fills?) Maybe an underlying problem with your metabolism (medications, thyroid etc) or perhaps you are not doing your part to make it work (what and how much are you eating? are you exercising enough?)

If you are not receiving enough support from your current doctor try to find another one and try to look at why the band is not working for you. This is a support thread, if you provide the right information we can try to help you. But jumping on here and bashing the band with little information to back it up is not very constructive.

I haven't been banded yet but I do believe something is not right with your band. Pain usually means trouble and it should be looked into. Perhaps it has slipped or there is something else wrong with it?

Jodi ~ couldn't have said it any better! I'm 20 pounds down since my April 21st surgery and although I would love to say I'm lighter and this band is not working well - it is and it's things I'm not doing that I should be to move myself further along. If you've only lost 13 pounds in 19 months, there is CLEARLY something wrong and I wouldn't say it's the band. I also have a thyroid condition, which required medication daily and for the rest of my life, BUT if you watch what you eat, exercise, etc. there is NO WAY you wouldn't lose weight.

I don't mean to be harsh, but perhaps you need some tough love. Posting a message like that, especially to others who may not have had the surgery yet isn't fair... it's a negative message that isn't deserved.

I am not advocating mexican surgeries the reasons you mentioned is why i DECIDED TO GO WITH AN AMERICAN DR. I DID RESEARCH AND THEY CLAIM TO BE BEST IN MY AREA. I am only stating my opinions as you are. I am trying to help others from making the same mistakes I have made. It is ok for you to have your opinions just as it is ok for me to have mine.

NO DOUBT YOU ARE WRONG BECAUSE THE MEXICANS KNOW THAT AND INCLUDE FLIGHTS HOTEL STAYS AND EVEN FOLLOW UP FLIGHTS FOR FILLS. If you disagree with me that is fine but do not state your OPinion as some high and mighty because it is just yopur opinion.

It is meant to help others who have not had surgery yet. FYI I managed tio lose 50 lbs presurgery. Now that I have had to eat not much and endure the pain anytime I try I eat worse and tend to stick to low pain things. I am allowed my opinion as you are if you like the band and I do not. that is ok Should not people have the all the information possible then make there own choice that is the only reason I bothered to post this to try and help others I wish someone had done this for me preop.

ASnd all you who keep saying do you exercise I walk on my lunchebreak just to get away from worl. And I work as a mechanic so my work is very physical.

I think what is missing here is a lot of information. Yes you are entitled to your opinion but you should support it. The band isn't for everyone and is a choice that is personal. It sounds like you have many other issues that perhaps aren't related to the band. To advise others to not have this done because of your experience without sharing your experience isn't really helpful. I hope you find your answers to what you need. God Bless

Still....you give no more information regarding your problems. This makes people wonder about your motives. Just sayin....makes you sound a little fishy.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
