asnewme1 0 Posted June 19, 2008 Hi, I am just beginning. June 25th is my consulation with the bariatric doctor. Then the week after with my cardiologist. I have had a major heart attack and I am 230 pounds, 5'2. Not sure what the BMI for that is but it has to be a lot. So my question is does anyone out there have any experience with Oxford Insurance? I am really hoping they cover this because I will probably have to stay in the hospital longer than most of you. I am trying to get it done at Mount Sinai in NYC, Dr. Kini- Anybody familiar with him:confused:
kkarryall 0 Posted June 19, 2008 I do not have Oxfod, I have GHI and am being banded on June 23rd. If you are looking in the NYC area, you might want to consider Dr. Fielding or Dr. Ren---they are really pioneers in the field and have done TONS of lap bands---they are at NYU medical center. Good luck with your decision! Many insurance companies require a 6 month medically supervised diet, so you might want to start that if its required. MUSIC MOM 0 Posted June 19, 2008 I have Oxford Freedom - they cover the procedure - if I remember correctly they did not require a 6 month diet - my particular plan also did not require pre-certification or a referral so I just breezed through. They were very nice on the phone - answered all my questions - my surgeon is not in network so there is a deductible and then they pay 80%. I know others who have the same insurance and they also had no problems. Give them a call! Good Luck and welcome to LBT.
