Newbie looking for advice, friendship and weight LOSS!

Recommended Posts

I was banded on June 2nd,2008 at Stanford Hospital, CA by Dr.Morton. I really am looking for advice, friendship and any moral support on my journey to a healthy life via text :smile2:.

Right now my only complaints are 4 weeks of liquid diet which everyone else seems to only have needed 2 weeks of liquids and moved on to soft foods then food. I am so hungry and these shakes and Jello just don't cut it. I have been breaking down crying because it seems so hard mentally and physically the hunger. All I can think is I will have a fill soon and food soon and it will be easier.

Also does sleeping on the stomach ever get easy or is it a no no going forward no matter how long you have had the band? I hate sleeping on my back and I find major discomfort when laying on my side.

I admit, I went into the lap band blindly and reading threads on this site has educated me in just 1 day so far. I have learned alot and hope to continue learning from many of you.

Thanks for reading and contact me if you would like my email or etc

Don't get discouraged!!! It will all be worth it in the long run. I know how you are feeling but your stomach needs time to heal and having liquids is the best way. I used to have Jello and broth and sf popsicles. I am a stomach sleeper myself and it took almost 2 weeks after surgery before I could sleep on my stomach. As a matter of fact slept for almost a week in the recliner because it was more comfortable than the bed. Once you see the weight melting off of you, you will be happy you made the decision to have the band. I would do it in a heartbeat again if I had to choose. Have a great day!! God Bless!!!

Hello...I am new here as of today! I was banded on May 23, 2008. I too went into this blindly, thinking I knew what was going to happen or how I would be feeling....boy was I wrong! I am still on mushies....will be until the end of this week. I went to Mexico to be banded....the cost was half of what they wanted here in the states and my insurance....God bless Blue Cross.....won't pay for this procedure. The hospital, Dr's and staff were GREAT! But I do feel like I have been...let out into the wild with no help or protection what-so-ever! So...thus I turn to the puter and I find this site!!

I am having a few problems that some of you might be able to explain.....first I am soooo consipated. It was so bad one night that I was having cold chills and breaking out in a sweat! Pain in the intestinal area and a severe back pain that made it impossible to sleep on either side or on the tummy! I figured out that all of that had to be brought on by being stopped up.....but nothing seems to be working on getting it out! I know I need more Water.....and I feel like I could float the Titantic!!

The other problem is a sharp pain right in between the breasts....almost where one of the incisions was made.....feels like a knife being stabbed in me......takes your breath away....anyone had this before?? The last episode happened with just 2 sips of WATER! It only lasts about 15 min or so.....but man does it hurt!

Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated!:cursing:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
