Hi New Here and Nervous

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone

I am Marisol 29 , I am barley looking into this procedure . I dont get my UHC POS insurance until July 1st and I saw that many of you are experts and nice .

I am 234 and only 4ft 11 , I hope I can qualify for this procedure , I am also scared of it though, what finally brought me to this decision is that I got denied for life insurance due to being overweight

Hope to make new friends and advisors here :smile2:

Best wishes!

Marisol-

At 234 at 4'11" is a 47.3 BMI. That qualifies you for banding. Anything over 40 BMI qualifies and 35 BMI qualifies if you have obesity related medical conditions (H B/P. sleep apnea, diabeties, etc.). However, your insurance co still has to approve it. Some companies don't pay for it --- some do. Even when they do pay for it - each insurance co/plan has it's own guidelines and policies. The best place to begin is to call your ins co and find out if your policy covers it. If so -- find out what their guidelines are. If that's a go-find an MD in your area that does the surg. Make sure you find someone who is certified in gastric banding becasue surgeons who are certified and have more practice at it -- have better outcomes. Good luck.

I have been on this site for about a month. I too came here looking for information, advice, friendship and support. This is a great place for it all. I have a friend or two who we email, and the chat room is a great place to hang out if you have time. I am the type of person who wants to know what can go right but also what can go wrong, that way I am prepared if something does. The people here are very honest and will answer any questions that you post. I have read posts asking about everything from how to deal with gas to getting breast implants after weight lose to how to eat at each stage. I wish you the best with your search for answers, you will find them.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
