Nervous in New Jersey

Recommended Posts

This is my first post, although I've been reading the posts here for a while.

I never had a weight problem until I got married and my mil put me on my first diet (I was a size 5). Since then, I've tried so many different things to lose weight and always gain it back with a few of its friends

I had gone to a seminar a few years back, but felt out-of-place since everyone there was much larger than I was and had serious health issues. I felt like I was trying to take the easy way out. So here we are five years later and still the same ole size. UGH!

I've been doing more research and have come to the conclusion that having the lap-band will be the best tool to take this weight off for good. Unfotunately, now that I've made up my mind, I'm so nervous that I'm going to chew off all my nails! I'm very worried that I won't meet the criteria. I'm right on the boarder...I'm 100 lbs overweight, but my BMI is only 39.9. I have to wait until the seminar on July 16th to even get started.:smile2:

:thumbup:Hi this is also my first post. I am in the process of getting the band. I have my first consult on July 3rd, and i am too nervous. I've gotten all of my labs, stress, apnea, echo, medical letter inhand when i go for the consultation! Lol . I didnt want to wait for them to tell me what I needed to submit to the insurance for the code that is needed. I really want to get this on the ball because i am looking forward to getting off all of the bp meds and leading healthier life for my children. I too am 100lbs overweight! :smile2:

Sounds like a good idea...I should contact my various doctors to get my information. I've already been seeing a nutritionist for 9 months, but it hasn't helped.

Yeah is a wonderful idea to speed up the process. They will need all of that info anyway so why not have it ready when i go? Im very nervous about it all, i think that uhc is pretty reasonable and quick at approval ( thats what i heard), I hope to get the surgery if all goes well in July.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
