Hey everyone!

I made it under the knife. I had Lap Band surgery on Thursday, 6/12/08. I felt like a big Mac truck rolled over me :scared2:on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I felt better on Monday, Tuesday and Today. I see the doctor at 1pm today. I don't know if I lost any weight. He said to walk but if was not possible for the first 3 days post op. I could only walk a little the past 2 days. I stuck to Clear Liquids and lots of Water. I even took tylenol for pain. I am not a pain medicine person. They gave me Vicodin and I have not use one pill. I did eat baby food meat and apple sauce since the dietician told me to go to pureed foods after the surgery.

Now let the weight leave my body forever...

At first, I thought, "Lord, what have I done?". Now I believe that I can do this. Forge on my fellow troopers! Forge On!

Hi Sassylily,

I was banded on Monday 6/16. I am feeling a lot better today. It was a little bit rougher than I thought. I know in a few months we will all be happy. I gained one pound after surgery and I have lost 3 more pounds including the 10 pounds before surgery. Good luck

My surgery was Monday June 16th and I have lost 6lbs already. I dont feel hungry either. I am following the liquid diet and I feel so light! I weighed myself Sunday before the surgery and I was 235 I weighed myself yesterday and I was 222. That sounds unrealistic but I have lost weight already! It was originally 6lbs 2 days ago but today it is 13! We will be thin before we know it! Will someone tell me how to get that weight loss tracker??? Thanks

Hi All,

I had my surgey 6/18 and still fighting the gas. Day 2 post op was the worse. Like you, I feel like what have I done to myself. I do have the full feeling and I am sticking to liquids, maloxx, and Gas X. I see Mr Dr on Tuesday 6/24. I hope I feel better by then. Can wait to feel good again.

Hi, All

Question for you newer lap band people. I am scheduled for my surgery on July 1 (YES, I am terrified of the knife, but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do). I was only able to arrange for 5 days off from work, which means I am scheduled to go back to work on July 8. Is this realistic? Does anyone remember how they felt 7 days post-op? My job is a desk job but there is some walking around - no steps, though.

Any advice? Should I fight for more days off, or save them for just in case scenarios?

Thanks! rdk211

In my opinion, 7 calendar days for a desk job is realistic.

People tried to tell me 3 or 4 days would be fine, but I found that was just way too optimistic.

You start making a lot of incremental progress day 4 thru day 7...

Oh yeah 7 days is a nice amount of time to be off.. I was banded on a thursday and went back to work that monday.. but if i would have stayed off for at least a week i would have bee about 100% compared to how i felt day 1-4..

Thanks to those of you who reassured me that 7 calendar days is fine. My next question is - how swollen will I be one week post op? Right now, my largest clothes (sz 22) are fitting but on the tight side. Would it make sense for me to buy one or 2 size 24 blouses so that I can have something to wear to work till the swelling goes down, or is it pretty down by one week post-op?

Also, how soon after surgery were all of you able to tolerate caffeine again? I can't get through the day at work (or my one hour commute home) without a cup of coffee at some point. (not an addict, just like my daily cup of joe). I'm a bit concerned about that as well.

Hi,

My friend and I were banded on Wed., 6/11. Go buddy system! We both have desk jobs, and planned to go back in 6 days, on the 17th. I made it back on the 18th. She developed a painful hematoma next to the port site, and we spent the 17th at the ER making sure she was going to be ok. She is fine and came back on the 19th. We are sore and a little weak, but it really wasn't any harder than busying ourselves at home. The first 2-3 days are the hardest, but once you adjust to what has happened to your body, it's easier. I am doing great, and other than having some gas pains, there's not been any trouble. My advice is to get good rest while you are off; walk as much as you can, to get rid of the gas; drink as much Water as you can get in, and follow the diet to the letter.

I have lost 21 lbs. since starting the 1 week pre-op diet, and it feels great. My knees thank me.

There will be some swelling. And it could last for weeks. At the same time, however, you will be losing weight...so it kind of evens out.

I'd lay off the caffeine for a while though......

Thanks to all those who replied. :smile:YOu are all so reassuring. I'm tipping closer and closer to the "not chickening out" side of my mind right now. (But I'm still scared...terrified...not sleeping well at night...wish it was over)

My next question is Do you have a shopping list of stuff it would be worthwhile to buy and have in stock BEFORE the surgery?

so far, my list includes: Blender and hand blender, sippy water bottle (the no straw squeeze kind), Protein Powder (but I don't know what brand yet), chewable Vitamin, chewable immodium, gasX strips, liquid tylenol, canned clear broth, sugar free Jello, sugar free popsicles, Protein bullets (not sure what these are but will check out on GNC.com) heating pad. Oh, and have my dh bring up our recliner from the basement to my bedroom. Any other suggestions?

I found I needed some band aids to change my dressings. The hospital gave me enough for a few days, but instructions were to change them daily after showering for 10 days. I live 40 miles from the nearest store to purchase stuff, and am almost certain they wont have the quality that my Dr. gave me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
