Recommended Posts

people have given different answers and opinions as to what exactly pb is. I would like an answer to what it is, and what it means?

Here is an explanation word for word from paperwork I have:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It is extremely important that Lap Band patients learn to chew properly and eat slowly. If you do not chew your food extremely well you will have a very difficult time eating solid foods. Most patients spit food back up that has not been chewed well enough or has been eaten too fast. This problem is often called "Productive Burping".
Most Lap Band Patients don't throw up their food in the form of vomit; they burp it up. They simply burp and the food comes up in the same form as when it was swallowed-There is no stomach acid. If this happens to you, chew better next time
This is the same description I was going to give as well. :drool:
on the same note...what are people talking about when they say they are "Sliming"? I'm only 3 wks post op and I'd really like to avoid ALL that if possible! ugh.
Sliming is when the food gets stuck in your stoma, again it is caused by not chewing your food enough. In this case your body responds by creating a lot of mucus which backs up your esophagus and into your mouth. You are not usually able to swallow the mucus because of the stuck food so you have to keep spitting it out.
So to avoid PB-ing and Sliming CHEW-CHEW-CHEW & eat slowly...
As I read more on this website, I too am nervous "about all that!" I guess it is a matter of experience as you progress along after surgery. I want to hear about the person that doesn't slim or vomit or PB. Is that possible?
I haven't lost a ton of weight yet but I have restriction.. I can only eat 1/2 a cup at a sitting I have never Pb'd or slimed. But I get full very fast and pay attention to how I feel.
No need to be nervous. Just be sure to eat slowly, chew well and stop eating when you have had enough. PB'ing, sliming and getting stuck are good ways to teach us an unforgettable lesson about eating right with the band.
I have not PB'd yet but I did get stuck once...OUCH! I was in too big of a hurry and swallowed a piece of turkey cold cut without chewing it enough. It sure did teach me a lesson! :thumbs_up:
      Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.
        Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...
        Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
