Hello everyone!

This is my first post here, but I've been loving all of the info that I'm finding here, thanks! I'm about 95% sure that I'm having the Lap Band done by Dr. Ortiz in Mexico next month (July 08'). My main concern is the aftercare. Can anyone share their experiences on their aftercare and follow-ups since having surgery in Mexico please (especially patients of Dr. Ortiz)? I live in RI, so I don't know if I'll always be going back to Mexico for my fills, or if I'll go to a fill center, but the closest 1 to me is a couple hour drive too. Thanks.

Hi getthin. Welcome. I didn't have my surgery in Mexico, but since nobody else replied, I thought I'd give my $.02 about fills. It sucks having to drive for awhile to get to a fill center, but that'd be waaaaay better than going to Mexico (unless you could could time the fills with your vacation and then deduct as "medical procedure"....LOL). But seriously, I've had 2 fills and so far they take about 30 seconds to complete. No big deal, and they're almost painless.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
