I am new to this process and to chatting in a chat room support group. I am starting the process of LapBand surgery through Nix Health System in San Antonio. I had my first meeting with Dr. Wright and will meet with the Nutrionalist and Psyh on July 1. I need the surgery to not only lose weight but to help curb some pretty tough back pain due to previous spine surgeries, etc. I am hoping that this support group will help me prepare for my new way of life. Plus hopefully I will be able to encourage others by discussing my journey over the next year or so. I will appreciate any insight that is available as I would like to know what this adventure as I will call it will entail.:)

welcome aboard...you'll learn a lot and have an opportunity to share a lot here. but make sure that you get the "real scoop" from your doctor and his/her office staff. (sometimes we know what we're talking about and sometimes we don't :)).

i wish you the best of luck from a fellow san antonio-area resident (boerne).

Hey fourpaws! I once did an internship with the hyperbaric oxygen department (wound care) at the Nix. Cool old hospital very close to the riverwalk. I went to college in San Marcos, and I love Texas hill country. Welcome and good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
