Banded May 26, 2008

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I was banded just last month, therefore I'm still in the healing process and without a fill as of yet. Let me tell you, the hunger has not stopped, so I'm trying desperately not to eat too much. I'm just looking forward to my first fill, hopefully it will make a difference.

I'm sorry that you are having a difficult time. I've never experienced what they refer to as bandster hell. I've never liked that term much as it's just a time when you are asked to test your limits. Is it stomach hunger or head hunger? I have found that if the majority of my caloric intake comes from Protein that I am not hungry. I keep my carb intake to a minimum and I'm not hungry very often.

Hang in there, RPA. It will get better when you start getting fills. It helps to stay busy, and of course (if you are able) walk, walk, walk.

I was banded on June 2nd and still w/o a fill....what is weird is where I got the band requires liquids for 4 weeks then 1 week pureed then 1 week soft foods....I am so hungry and I don't know what to do....only being allowed liquids for this long with my hunger in full effect.... So very very very hard.

Oh my goodness....the first week for me was just liquids, 2nd was cream, 3rd week was puree and this week, thank god is my transition to solids. I've never heard of liquids for 4 weeks, sounds really unhealthy. Where did you get the band?

At Stanford Medical Univ CA

Bariatric Surgery - Stanford Hospital & Clinics - Stanford University Medical Center

I can have cream of wheat Jello etc as a liquid but still I don't understand why its not just 2 weeks like I have read on this site and others on the internet. 5th week is pureed which is basically liquid also so I am in major hunger strike. This barely started happening about 3 days ago as I got banded on June 2nd so I was swollen and in pain.

I have called the Dr. office and am awaiting a response, as to what I do?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
