Banded in the Quad Cities?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anyone has been banded in the Quad Cities? I'm planning on getting it done there, but haven't checked into any doctors yet. Any suggestions for surgeons?

Hello Hinman, Fellow Quad Citian Here. I Had My Surgery On April 28th This Year. Dr. Phelps At Genesis Bariatrics Performed The Surgery. The Dr. And The Staff Are Great, They Are Genuinely Concerned With Your Success. I Have Only Had One Fill So My Restriction Is Not Quite Right Yet, But Am Down 36 Lbs. Since The Start Of The Process. I Hope This Helps And Best Of Luck On Your Journey.

Thanks for the response! Do you know anyone else who was banded in the QC? If so, what surgeons did they use? I'd like as much input as possible! Thanks again and congrats! :biggrin2:

Thanks for your response! Have either of you had any problems with the band? What side is your port on? What kind of diet restrictions do they have planned for you? When do you get to go back to work? What kind of work do you do? Sorry for all the questions! :cursing:

I was banded June 9th was up and walking about 2 hours after the recovery room. Little are no plain some discomfort. The port is a little above and to the right side of my belly bottom. I was on a high Protein low card diet two weeks before surgery. After I was home It was a Clear Liquids for 48 hours, then full liquids for two weeks. IF you use Genesis, which I highly recommend, you will meet with the dietitian three times before surgery and she will lay out a plan for you. The important thing is to follow it. I work part time as a Citibus driver so I was off the week of my surgery and went back my next schedule work day on Wednesday. If you have any other question I'll try and answer them. Good luck

I haven't been here for a while. I was trying to get banded at Trinity, (started in October) but they held me up and claimed it was the insurance. I know I have full coverage and approval cause I called the insurance co myself. Now I am going to Genesis and they are so nice and helpful over there. They accepted my records from the other hospital and am is the process of seeing the dietitian now. I go on Medicare on August 1 and hope to have it done before that, but will use Medicare if I have to. I've been exercising and working on my blood sugars (I'm diabetic) and sure hope this gets me off insulin after the band. Wish me good luck!

Opus (Judy)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
