Pre-diet in Mexico?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I have a question for anyone who has had their surgery in Mexico. I am arriving in Mexico on June 30th, but my surgery is not until July 2nd. Currently I am on the liquid pre op diet and I am unsure what I will eat the two days before my surgery. What did everyone eat before surgery while in Mexico? Thanks, BethO:confused:

I did not have a preop diet, only no eating after dinner time the day before. The day of surgery was only Water.

If you have a diet of liquids, it is pretty easy to find Jello, apple juice, etc in Mexico.

Please remember that if you are flying and you decide to bring some liquid items with you, you will need to put it into checked baggage and not carry on. They will confiscate anything above 3.4 ounces that is not in one quart sized sandwich baggie.

I was banded in the US but I didn't have a pre op diet. My dinner the night before just had to be before 7pm.

I ate at my favorite Italian restaraunt the night before :) I was done by 6 tho! lol

You can do agua fresca- it's purified Water and ice cubes (make sure!), a little sugar (tell them to put none or less), and fresh fruit all blended up. My favorites are watermelon (sandia) and cantoloupe (melon, I think). They usually run $1-2 for a big cup and they're so refreshing! You could bring a couple of boullion packets to mix with bottled water and Jello snack packs with you. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
