I'm 6'2" and I weigh 370 pounds.

These are the first things you notice about me.

I am 34, Married with 2 boys (7 and 2.5). they are a HUGE motivation for me.

I compete in strength sports (Highland Games and a little Powerlifting).

I have used these as justification for my size for a long time. "I am just a BIG STRONG GUY" Recently I was at a competition and a 5'8" 210 pounder kicked me around the field all day. I threw poorly for my personal standards and realized that I had crossed a line some time back from being an athlete to just being too big. In these sports there are alot of 300 pound guys and alot of masters class guys (40 years+) but very few 300 pound masters, this makes me think about long term effects of my size.

I have a good understanding of diet and exercise. I have won provincial contests for my efforts with trips to Vegas and Mexico. World Health Club

These goal I set keep me focused and on track. but once the goal is reached and I do not have the contest as a tool to keep me focussed, I start to slip a little bit and a little bit more. before you know it I am at the bottom of the slide.

I will have my initial phone consultation with LBSC in Toronto in a couple of days. I am hoping to have my surgery in early September. (this will allow me to finish my HG season). The more I read on this forum and other sites the more questions that I have.

Hey whats going on. I'm 6' 2" also and at my heaviest I was 375. Right before surgery I was 356, and am currently weighing in at 290, and im only 21 my heaviest was about 2-3 yrs. ago. I know exactly where you're coming from. I've always been competitive person as well. You keep saying in your mind "well I'm healthy and and comfortable with my weight, as long as I can maneuver around with my weight I'm fine". But to tell you the truth you're not, the more weight you lose the better you feel not only mentally but physically. AS you continue to lose weight you're still gonna have the mentality of a 350+ pound guy in a smaller and quicker body, therefore you're gonna be twice as stronger.

Amen Haze

That is pretty much the realization I came to last month on the field.

Brandy.

The info I have found has been a great find and I am sure I have only scratched the surface.

Welcome.

I'm 48, 6' and was 290.... I am a widower with 3 girls, I want to be around for my kids and thats why I went for the lap band.. SWLC and Dr. Mumford were very good... I had my surgery April 22 and have gone down 53 lbs with only a 2cc fill at the time of surgey. Sure I have lost, but I hae done so in the past only to regain.... this time I have a tool in me (an expensive one at that) that if I want or have craving for food, I will get satiety with a fill. As for your competitive background, there are absolutely no restrictions having a lap band.... When I decided to get this done, the SWLC gave me a book to read that was very thorough. Good luck to you and 'shop around' especially if you are a self pay.... Mumford has done around 5000 procedures out of his own clinic in Mississauga.

Welcome! I'm not a guy, which should give you all the more encouragement because you all seem to lose quicker!! But I am 6'0 and started at 333lb. By my 1 year bandiversary I had lost 100lbs.

Good luck on your journey & I am sure you'll find a lot of good information around here.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
