12_12_7.gif  I am a cheese fanatic! Always have been. I haven't given up my cheese. My kids thinks it's like when I quit smoking, temper, temper, temper.... I have withdrawls from it. You should of been around for my liquids stages.....Yikes! lol not that bad but you are not alone on the cheese. I haven't tried nuts yet, kinda scared that they will stick. So I can't really help you. Just thought I would let you know you are not alone.

Are you on a Calcium supplement? I was told to take Caltrate 600 Plus D (chewable tablets.) Maybe you are low on calcium or Vitamin D...

I hear ya . . . I have been going through the same thing. I have found that lately I have been cravvvviiiinnnggg milk. It is really strange for me but it seeems as though the craving is so strong it is more a body craving then just a head craving. I just make sure I drink it out of a small teacup (if I get a big mug I will be sure to drink it all).

Perhaps our bodies are trying to tell us something??? Calcium and Vitamin D are great as long as we are not taking in too many calories.

I still drink milk and eat cheese. To me the Calcium and other nutrients are worth the extra calories. I'm still losing weight steadily. I have a cup every evening when I get home. I seem to crave it too, but then again I've always loved milk. I stick to the Protein, fruits/veggies, then I get in my calcium, then other stuff...my bones and nails thank me.

Milk and dairy products are healthful. If your're doing the low fat, I wouldn't worry about it. Especially if you are older and need the Calcium to prevent osteoporosis. If your child bearing age, you would need reserves for a pregnancy, which will leach it out of your bones. Americans typically don't get near the amount of calcium we should. I eat yougurt, cheese and milk quite a lot. It's satisfying and healthy.

Who said you had to give up dairy ???

I am suppose to have skim milk - dannon lite & fit yogurt - lowfat cheeses.

I don't eat as much cheese as I use to - but have some lowfat string cheese everynow and then - I stay away from too much cheese cuz of the fat and calories for one little oz

At the seminar I attended, the doctor said one of his patients came in and complained about not losing any weight. She said her only indulgence was yogurt. It turned out she was eating TEN containers per day! So, while he said yogurt was okay when eaten in moderation, it slides down the banded opening, and is not something you want to get into a habit of snacking on. I don't know the right amount because I haven't gotten that far in the process, but it sounds like, in moderation, dairy is fine.

Uhm.. have dairy!! :biggrin2:

I swear I never had a glass of milk a day in my life before I got banded. Never cared for it. Since banding, I crave it and have about 3 glasses of it a week.

I love cheese, and I drink a milk based Protein Shake (ready to drink-Worldwide Pure Protein Shakes-Trader Joe's, GNC, Vitamin Shoppe). In the evening I use skim milk for any Protein Powder drink that I mix. I even found a way to have cheese during the liquid diet. I heated Tomato Soup, then broke up several slices of Kraft Fat Free cheese and added to the Soup, stirring until it melted. Cheesy Tomato soup! I make crustless pizza (the dough tends to get stuck) with Ragu pizza sauce, Hormel Turkey Pepperoni (70% less fat) peppers and onions (Birdseye Pepper Stir Fry) and Kraft Fat Free Shredded cheese. I layer in a microwave safe dish and heat. I figured out it was the toppings I craved. I do the same with turkey meatballs, spaghetti sauce, and Parmesan cheese. I love cheese and it is a good source of protein. I just eat fat free or low fat. I also take calcium citrate with Magnesium and D. I eat some yogurt, but I don't have a sweet tooth, and after a while yogurt gets a little too much in the sweetness department for me.

Well I must say I am glad to see other dairy lovers out there, my surgeon in the booklet he gave me said no dairy food except a little in tea or milk, but ah everyone else having it, and no I am not taking the Calcium d tablets maybe my body is trying to tell me something, wish I would have come straight home from work to read replies first------- cos the local supermarket had cheeses massively on sale, romano, parmessan ,feta, well came home with 12 cheeses -- the 3 baked ricottas my favourite, i know but 12 maybe i am becoming a compulsive oh heck --- will go for the calcium and Vitamin D tommorrow, and remind myself i am in control of what I eat, maybe will make a cheese board and take some to work-- less tempting that way.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
