Blue Bell Ice Cream Hell!!!!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

Well I am finally back amongst the living following surgery and the liquid diet. Things kind of got harry there for a while but all is fine now. Except...... Ice Cream. Who in their right mind at the grocery store came up with this stupid 10 for 10 sale on half the things in the store????? That person ought to be drawn and quartered. OK Here's what happened. I am at the store with my DW and we're in line getting ready to use the God-Awful self-pay thing. (Another great invention) She says she has to grab a loaf of bread and runs off like the wind. OK, That's fine. I'll just run these things through and she'll be back in no time. Well about 5 minutes (an eternity when someone is behind you tapping their foot) go by and she returns with 10 (count'em 10) pints of Blue Bell Ice Cream. "They're 10 for 10!!!", She said. "That's lovely.", I said. I think I can safely attribute 50 pounds of my excess weight to Blue Bell Ice Cream. I don't know about the rest of the USA but I am sure you folks from the south can relate. There was a time when you could only get Blue Bell in Texas but it has since moved into OK, AR and I think LA. If you haven't had this demonic concoction then I say to you, Never start. If you have been to outback steakhouse and had the chocolate thunder from down under it's too late. They use Blue Bell Homemade vanilla in all of their chains. This stuff is addicting. So much so that people make pilgrimages to Brenham, TX to tour the creamery and to see the happy singing cows in the pasture. That's why the Ice Cream is so good, because it comes from singing cows. I know it's true, I saw it in a commercial. :-) And get this. Their motto is, "we eat all we can and sell the rest." From the dutch chocolate to the Cookies and cream. From Rocky road to chocolate chip. From Homemade vanilla to tin roof. I am in ice cream hell!!!!!! Now Luckily enough for me my Wife and kids have no weight problem and I am fairly sure that with a 16 and 14 year old in the house I can eliminate this overstock of ice cream before too long. However my wife did say she had to go back to the store this afternoon and I know for a fact she can resist everything EXCEPT temptation. she may come back with a new freezer to hold the overstock. So in the meantime I shall continue to repeat MY motto which is, "Success is seldom permanent but failure can be." To all my fellow banded brothers and sisters remember to just say no to singing cows.

But if the temptation is too much check out their website at www.bluebell.com and see what I'm talking about. No I don't work for these people but I am quite sure I have sent some of their children to college.

Brother, I am SO there with you. Ice cream is my biggest problem, and I can certainly attribute at least 50 pounds to it. Do you suffer sympathy PMS when your wife gets them? I ask because there's no way I can get through my "special time" without ice cream. The first of the month I buy 1/2 gallon, and it's gone by the 2nd day.

My skinny husband eats 2 snickers a day. When they were 20 for $10.00, I bought 2 cases. I can't pass up a bargain, so the fact you can get 10 pints of ice cream for $10 should be illegal. Could you imagine a cocaine sale? Addicts would go nuts.

But on the dreamy side, how fun to have 10 different pints in the freezer. If I ever have a week to live, it will be 7 days of eating ice cream.

AHHHH Blue Bell Ice Cream! Nothing here compares. Having moved from Texas I know just what you are talking about. Seems like I saw a commercial for Blue Bell but I won't allow myself to look in the grocer's freezer for it here in NC. Too tempting.

Ya know? Before banding, I could resist ice cream. Now, the thought of that sweet creamy yummy stuff sliding right on down past the band with no discomfort is more than I can pass up! This could be dangerous. Thanks for the reminder to abstain for as long as possible. It could turn into a habit in a single bite!

Sing it! Blue Bell!! The Best Ice Cream in the Country!

Well kathy I guess I could pack a freezer pack for you and get it in the mail overnight. I seem to have a little extra right now.

Delarla, A case of snickers??? Now we are treading on dangerous ground. And then they had to go and invent the dang ice cream snickers bar. Those mean evil people.

OK Alatina so you're the one to blame. May you find yourself overstocked with Blue Bell and without a spoon. :-)

Without a spoon? NOOO PROBLEM MAN!!! You simply peel the carton away and eat it like you would a cone. Or you use the lid.

Ice cream = love

And that is the hardest bond to break.

Thank God after reading your post Blue Bell has not reached California yet ;) but I can relate to the 10 for 10 thing and the self check-out lane. I indulge in both of those everytime I grocery shop!

guitarman,

What is it with these spouses of ours. I have one of them skinny husbands who can eat anything and everything without a care in the world. The minute I started my liquid diet he started on the ice cream (Edys, all those kinds that I never could even get near or I would gain 10 pounds). He is averaging a half gallon every two to three days. (He is cooking for himself you see). Ahhhhh, what are we gonna do with em?

j.s.

Mark, you are in dangerous territory, man! NO shipments of Blue Bell, overstock or no! Keep it in your own freezer! LOL ;)

And you are SO right, Vinesqueen. Spoon be damned! Who needs it?!!! You paint such a lovely picture...I could see me peeling the carton, scary! You crack me up.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
