Water water water...BLIMP

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone!

Long time reader...first time poster... I am so full of it. :w00t: Well that is why I am posting to be honest. I am currently on a med that causes Water retention. I feel like auditioning for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade as a blimp. (My stomach is actually bigger than my "merchandise".)

I am good about controlling my salt intake. My husband makes all our food from scratch 80% of the time, no packaged crap, and no dining out, and I am an excellent Water drinker. My question is this: Should I ask my lapband doctor: "Is a water pill right for me?"

I am seeing him on Wednesday, and I am not quite sure exactly what a water pill does, but does anyone else take it? Does taking the pill cause discomfort with their band? It would be a great help to know if it is doable, so he doesn't look at me as if I am from another planet.

:)(To be honest I didn't work this hard to get my shelf back, and to make matters worse I can't use it for Cookies or coke!)

whats the name of the meds your on. I take a Water retention pill and it actually pulls the Fluid off of me, i had to start taking it because i had heart failure 10 mths ago due to to much fluids building up on my heart and lungs, i would definetly check about this cause to much fluids can cause congestive heart failure.

In this respect, the band was a Godsend. I used to retain Water all the time and was also on a water pill that worked with my blood pressure medicine. I was always puffy in the morning. My hands and face were bad. I couldn't see my ankles or the bones in my feet. Since the band, I am no longer on a water pill, I'm on half the blood pressure meds I was on, and I have no water retention what so ever. It's glorious........ All my rings have to be resized now, and half my shoes don't fit anymore.

I've taken a Water pill (Maxide or Diazide) for years for Fluid retention. I had to stop because after I lost 60 lbs my blood pressure was dropping too low. I did not affect my band at all.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
