Long Drive After Surgery???

Recommended Posts

I live about 1 1/2 hours from the surgery center. Should I plan on staying in a hotel after the surgery or should I go ahead and come home? I do have someone to drive me but I had originally planned to stay in a hotel that night. I'm being banded on Wednesday 6/18. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,

I had my surgery in Mexico so I spent the night at the surgery center and flew home the next day. I slept a lot in the afternoon after surgery and was glad I had the day to rest. An hour and a half inst bad you could probably do it with no problem but you might enjoy the day to rest before getting back to the normal routine.

Good luck, you will be glad you had it done.

Sally

I rode for one hour after surgery and didn't have any problem at all. I didn't even need a pillow but I had one. You might want to take one just in case you need it. I wish you much success on your journey.

Congrats on being band.

Hi:

I was just banded June 5. I also live 1 1/2 hours from the surgery center. I had to stay the night for observation. I needed someone to drive me home. I know there are so many people on this sight that just jump right up after surgery and really do well, but I had 2 demerol pills to get me home and I slept the whole way. I hope you do better than I did, but just in case, take someone with you.:smile2:Good luck!

I have a 3 hour drive. My surgeon said to make sure and stop each hour and walk for 5 minutes to prevent blood clots. I would pull over after 45 minutes and do a 5 minute walk. You should be ok.

I agree, you should be okay. My ride home was only half an hour, and I dozed off countless times on the way but I wasn't in pain. Good luck!

I had about a 45 minute drive after my surgery. You should be fine. I was on so much medication after that I didn't feel a think. It was the day after that I was really sore.

My drive would have been 7 hours without traffic, but ended up being 11 hours with all of the traffic and side stops for shopping, walking and picture taking. I got sick of just sitting there, and demanded that my husband pull over the car. I drove the last 2 hours home and was more comfortable driving because I could predict all movements and adjust my body to prevent discomfort. If you aren't sleepy from the pain pills you should be ok.

2 1/2 hour ride for me. I just laid the seat back and napped. it wasn't bad at all until we hit some construction and rought road. The bumps weren't very comfortable. But I was fine. Not a problem.

Thank you to all who replied to my post. I think that I will check out of the hotel the morning of the surgery. If after the surgery I don't feel like a drive home, we'll just check back in for another night and drive home the next day.

I admire all those who did have long journeys. I don't think I could do 11 hours or go car shopping. You guys ROCK! :P

My drive is a little over an hour and I am planning on staying one night in the hospital. The doctor left it up to me if I wanted to do that or go home. I thought I would probably just feel better about everything if I stayed. That is a long way to go in the middle of the night should any complications arise.

I had a 1 1/2 hour drive to the surgery center, and had to be there at 7 am. We drove home that afternoon after the surgery, and had no problems. Heck, I'm the weirdo that went and looked at cars on the way home from the hospital. (My daughter needed a car, and since there were several car lots near the route home, why not!)

I had no problems what-so-ever. I just made sure I had my bottle of Fiji Water to sip every little bit, and I spent most of the time looking out the window at the vehicles. I did walk some since it was encouraged at the hospital.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
