barefootn 0 Posted June 15, 2008 Hi All, I've been an "observer" of this site for quite sometime, love the support I'm seeing here, and hope that someone can offer some feedback to me now! I've spent the last 6 months fulfilling the required documentation, consults, etc. as a prerequisite of my insurance, I now find myself facing a dilemma. I've lost some weight in the process, enough so that it has put me just a tad below the BMI considered necessary for WLS, though I still have the pre-existing comorbidities. Has anyone ever been turned down due to having lost "too much" weight in the process leading up to surgery?
AngelFish83 0 Posted June 15, 2008 I did not have the same experience as you, but I know that my Dr. put me on a plan before my surgery, and before I was approved I had lost about 20lbs. BMI is not the only factor that they consider when making the decision whether or not to cover your surgery. As long as you have the statement from your doctor stating the medical necessity of the surgery, and the other criteria I would go full steam ahead. Good Luck! :cursing:
It's_Christine 0 Posted June 16, 2008 My insurance clearly stated on it's web site that the initial weight (before the 6 months supervised diet) would be one that was used to approve the WLS. Check with your insurance and hopefully it will ease your mind. Congrats on the weight loss and good luck!
Froggi 4 Posted June 16, 2008 welcome to LBT. most insurances go by your starting weight. I would call and make sure. Good luck
