symptoms of Esophagus dialation or band slippage

Recommended Posts

I had my lapband surgery on January 9, 2008, and it seems like I've encountered more difficulties than my surgeon has seen in anybody else. It's been a pretty discouraging experience for me...and now I have a brand new problem that just started last night... :cursing:

Can anybody tell me what the symptoms for Esophagus dialation or band slippage are???? I am in a bit of pain right now...when I'm sitting or laying down, and I'm not sure why... I had a salad and a mini burger at Ruby Tuesday's yesterday afternoon, and I felt as tho I had eaten a little too much...but not an outrageous amount. I was a little uncomfortable, but it passed. About 4 or 5 hours later, I was sitting on my couch looking at a magazine, when all of a sudden my stomach started to hurt...all pretty much on the left side, and it radiates across my abdomen. I have no idea what I did, or what could've happened...but now it kinda hurts (aches) when I even take a sip of Water. Has anybody else had this happen to them?

Carla - If it hasn't cleared by morning, I would call your doctors office, they will probably want to see you.

I had severe reflux, but no other symptoms. I was unfilled for 5 weeks, then refilled. No problems now.

What you are describing with your stomach and abdomen I have never encountered. It is possible it is not band related, but I agree you should contact your doctor to be sure.

Let us know what you find out.

Hi, sorry to hear you are having so many problems with your band. :P I was just seeing if you went to your Dr. yet? If so what did he say? Hope all is well.

Have you been on anti-biotics at all?

When you say the pain is on the left... are you actually talking about the area under your rib cage? Or to the left of your belly button??? You mentioned pain goes to your abdomen so thats why i'm asking.

Also, does the pain happen regularly after you eat?

I had a salad and a mini burger/QUOTE]

The two things you ate are two that I was tod to definatelly be carefull with and not try the first 4-6 weeks... salad and bread... I hope you haven't slipped your band, but you may really want to watch your choices and check out what others on this site that have had success have had problems with... I am guiding myself by their recommendations as well as my doctor.

I was banded on January 8, 2010 and wouldn't think of trying bread yet, or a salad... lettuce is hard to digest even without the band, as is bread.... Be careful!!! And definately go see your doc if your pain persists... you only get one body, be carefull with it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
