high protien suggestions

Recommended Posts

I was banded on June 10th and have been doing pretty good. No gas pain --thank goodness, although I definatly have a lot of gas:blink:!! My incisions are doing well and the swelling seems to have gone down a little. However, I can't seem to get more than 600 or 700 calories in. I wasn't too worried about it until today when I walked in my house I got really light headed. Pretty close to passing out. I am drinking high protien shakes (26 grams per 8 oz) and going for the higher protien Soups. I just can't eat hardly anything without my stomach feeling really tight and uncomfortable and there are only so many hours in the day! Any suggestions for high cal, high protien foods. I am on full liquids for the next two weeks. THanks, Jill

I like to drink Isopure water--it has 40 grams of Protein in 20oz, and is sugar free. Kinda expensive, but an easy way to get your protein.

You could try a soft boiled egg, I know that if I need more Protein after surgery that's what I'll be doing, a soft boiled egg so that the yolk is still runny or maybe even a poached egg, eggs have alot of protein so I figure it will be the best thing overall that and there only little so you can have a full one and then still decide afterwards how you feel and if you think you need more protein maybe have half a shake?

Jilian, I really like the New whey Protein bullets. I mix them with crystal light, and it's basically just like drinking crystal lite. You can also just take a shot of it without adding it to anything (it's sort of the consistency of Jello before it sets). I think the 3 oz size has 42 oz of Protein and around 180 calories. That could be a great way to get extra protein in. I would make up a big glass and sip on it throughout the morning.

Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
