Medicines with Asprin in them

Recommended Posts

Can you take medicine with Asprin in it after the Lapband? At the seminar the surgeon was saying you can NEVER have meds with asprin in them again because you can easily develop an ucler after the surgery, but I am thinking that is only for gastic bypass patients. Am I correct in assuming that?

I was told the same thing by my surgeon. They are working with me to try to find a low dose motrin for me to take for my shoulder though. The chemical make-up of aspirin and motrin are ulcer causing. Even with someone with a "normal" stomach you have a high chance of developing ulcers.

I have a pretty messed up shoulder, and the only thing that works to help is motrin. And since the lap band I haven't taken anything. They are thinking I should be ok with a children's liquid motrin (it passes through faster and doesn't "sit" in the stomach at the same rate as a pill. But he wants me to wait until he is sure everything is healed up before I start taking it.

I SO CAN'T WAIT UNTIL I AM HEALED... tylonal just doesn't cut it :):sad:

There has been a lot of controversy over this issue. I think the current thinking has changed a little though. You might want to go to www.wlsfacts.com and click on the ask a Dr banner. that will get you a response from a currently practicing barriatric surgeon. It would at least be one more opinion:smile2:Craig

Both my band doctor and my fill doctor are ok with me taking asprin. The only thng that will get rid of my headaches are Excedrin. In fact my fill doctor said she would rather me take the excedrin instead of Motrin because she has seem more patients come in with problems from the Motrin than the Excedrin. Each doctor is different. Right now I am having a hard time because I just had surgery and I am having to go asprin free for another week because of the blood thinning that asprin causes.
