My name is Mary and I had Lap Band on June 2, I was very surprised by all the gas pain I had am I am still having. My doctor said if your hurting then usually you ate something wrong or to fast. I also was using a straw which cause gas. So my doctor put me back on Clear Liquids for a couple of days which helped. I also was taking mylicon and or mallox for the pain. And if was real bad I took my pain medicine because the gas was pressing on my incision. Walking really helps too. Hope all gets better

The biggest incision is where they put the port. If you are feeling something hard...it's the port. lol. But yeah the port incision is going to be the worst one and you are going to hurt where the port is because they sewed it onto your muscle to keep it from flipping/slipping while you heal.

That sounds like your port. It is going to be tender right there because as my Dr. explained it to me that he has to stitch it to your muscle so it will be kind of tender for a while. u have to be careful when u turn, lay down and make sure u don't pick up anything that u think might be to heavy.... take some tylenol and u should start to feel some relief....

Sounds like its probably gas and the port but never take anything for granted with the band. Especially in the beginning. Its always better to qsk the questions. this board is good but your Dr is even better :smile2:There is also a feature on www.wlsfacts.com where you can ask a Dr and get a quick reply fromo a barriatric surgeon. Not a substitute for your own Dr but a response from a real Dr can help make things calmer.

I was banded on Monday and yesterday was the first time I felt OK. That was 4 days later. I am still having trouble sleeping flat and if I turn I feel like I am tearing something inside, but it's not a gas type of feeling. I am very sore too but it will get better. Yesterday I walked in Target for like an hour and that definetely helped. Today I am planning to take a walk with my kids. My doctor said that walking is key to your recovery, so I'll try anything to feel better.

I was also banded on June 2nd and am having pain around my largest incision. I am assuming from what others have said here, its the port. As I have lost some belly fat, that area now jiggles when I walk. (sigh). And thats what hurts. When I turn over at night I carry my belly over with me lol. Today I got some support underpants called Slimmers at Walmart. They look like big ol grannypants with the waistband that goes up to under your breasts. At this point, I don't care about pretty! Hopefully they will support my middle until I can start strengthening my stomach muscles. I will report back after I have worn them to tell you if that worked.

U know what did help me with the port pain was to wear like a support under-garment that was really snugg fitting... that really help a lot...

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
