Liquid Protein

Recommended Posts

Hi..

I am in Spain and trying to prepare my 'clear fluids' stage of this surgery before my op on Wednesday. I have just tried to buy "liquid protein" and all they could show me was 'prosure'.. similar to Ensure in the US.. but I have a problem on two counts. 1) it is a creamy vanilla.. not clearn and 2) they are 8 Euros a serving!!!.. (a carton)... so I told the pharmacist to forget about it. They do have 21g of Protein.

Can anyone suggest another good source of daily Protein when in the clear liquid stage???.. I have bought ingredients for different broths etc.. but I would really like to find a good Liquid Protein to make sure I am getting enough, healing correctly and doing this properly.

I am in southern Spain so I think I may have to ship something here. Either from the UK or the US.. I am not sure if I am allowed to ship but will try.

Please advise.. I would like to be prepared when I go in. Otherwise I will wait until I am in the hospital (overnight stay) and see what they feed me.. I will just ask them if I can take some home!!..

I have my liquid Vitamins and liquid painkiller.. so 2/3 of the way there!

cheers!!:P

Hi, Kizzie.

The only clear liquid Protein drink I know is Isopure. That is what I was on during my clear liquid stage. It has 42 grams of Protein per bottle. It does come in a glass bottle, which may make shipping a challenge. You can look it up on the internet - they might ship it to you.

Another plan would be to have a fmaily member or friend in the states buy it for you and transfer it to plastic bottle and then ship it.

I think it is the best clear protein out there.

Good Luck to you!

Hello !

Thank you for that suggestion!. I shall have a look online and see where I can obtain Isopure from.. maybe there is somewhere closer than the US...

.. are any of the Isopure powders for the clear stage??. I have seen one in 'punch' flavour in the UK but it is a powder to mix with Water??.

Is the glass bottle variety only called 'ISOPURE".. or does it have a secondary title???

thank you!!!! you are a life saver!!!

OK I HAVE ANSWERED MY OWN QUESTION!

I have found 'Reflex whey Refresh".. it comes in three flavours.. Rhubarb, fruit Punch and Orange... 500ml gives 40g of protein!..

have just ordered a case... they DO deliver to Spain (from the UK)...

Bariatrics.com have a great liquid Protein but don't deliver to Spain.. so will stock up on that when I get back to the US in September!!...

Will post this on food and Nutrition.. aswell as Pre Op questions..

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
