Does anyone else have pain?

Recommended Posts

Hi All. I was banded in March of 2007. Doing just OK. Was wondering if anyone has had this problem. After my banding last year, I developed what the Dr. said was a hematoma. A huge bulge on my left side under my rib cage. Didn't really bother me, and did go down after quite a while. Last week, a bulge appeared again, same spot, but now with lots of pain. Cannot do my every day activities without having to sit because of pain. Had a ct scan, nothing showed. Not even the hematoma that I was told it was in the beginning. Had anyone every experienced pain and a huge bulge? Do you think the band might have slipped or maybe erosion is happening? My Dr. swears that there is nothing to worry about. But if not, why is there constant pain? Please, I would appreciate any help. Thanks so much.

Wow I hope you find out what is causing your pain.... I can't answer because i am not sure... I would do a google search and look it up and see what it says...

Thanks Mstrina. Wow, you seem to be doing great! Keep up the good work. I will google this, hopefully I can get some more information as to what the problem could be. I am going back to the Dr. on the 24th and she is going to take a look at it with the xray machine they use when we go for a fill. (not sure what the monster is called!) Maybe that will show something the ct scan might have missed. I hope so, I don't want to have another surgery. This would be my third if they find something not right. First my band, then a few weeks later my port flipped so they had to go in and fix that...and now this. I just haven't had a good experience with the lap band. I hope it gets better soon. It's pretty frustrating. Again, thanks for responding...take care.

Jeanne

I had the band placed on Monday and I was told yesterday that I have two hematomas. One on my left side high up in my rib cage and one on my lower left abdomen. They said they think it was caused by the blood thinners they inject pre and post surgery and sometimes the blood pools in certain areas, but will be reabsorbed by the body in time. A bulge on your left side that is not bruised could be really bad gas pains. Gas is a tricky thing and make you feel terrible pain.

Hope that helps.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
