I was banded two days ago and i still feel like crap but i expected that. I have had a huge headache and have been in the worst neckpain ever.-if anyone knows what the neckpain comes from please let me know-- I have had this flem stuck in my throat, is that normal? I feel like all im doing is drinking Water and Protein Shakes and its making me not wanna consume anything at all....i just want to eat food. Will i ever be able to eat normally again? (i know i cant have sugar and carbs, but i feel so out of place from my family) i just want food....this is kinda depressing...

I was banded last week. I had that neck pain, too, for several days. The only thing I can think of is that they must aggrivate those neck muscles during intubation. Your neck was probably stuck in some unusual position during surgery. Mine got better after about the third day, though.

I was on Clear liquids for 1 week which was really hard! Now I'm on full liquids and really enjoying cream of wheat and avocado Soup. I thought that first week would never end! And if I never see anymore egg drop Soup it will be too soon!

Hang in there. Before you know you'll be eating soft foods and feeling much more normal.

The neck pain may also be caused by the CO2 they fill you full of, it usually migrates to the left shoulder, chest and neck. I also had a hernia repair, that I didn't know I had prior to surgery, the neck and shoulder pain was worse than the surg. sites on my abdomen. I used a heating pad, had my husband massage it, and walked on the treadmill cause they said if I walked, my body would absorb it. I hurt for a week after surg, which btw was, may 20. I used the gas x strips and that helped, but when I would have what I call an internal burp, the gas seemed to travel across my chest to my right chest and I would just yell out. Luckily, it has subsided, just have to suffer thru until it goes away. I will be getting my first fill on the 23rd of June. I have a realize band.

Just to let you know your neck pain is from lying on the operating table. I had the same pain. It lasted for a few days and then went away. I also took tylenol for the pain.

Neck pain - me too! It didn't show up until day 2 but when it did, it hurt and actually worried me a bit. My glands were all swollen on both sides of my neck and I thought I was getting sick. It lasted for one day and then disappeared. Must have been like the others said, either the CO2 or the anesthetist maneuvering me around. (whew! big words - don't know if I spelled them right! hehehe)

Sorry you are having such a tough time of it. I would take some liquid Tylenol for the neck pain first of all if you don't have a pain killer from your doctor. If you are hungry you can have anything that fits through a straw including creamy Soup. That was a life saver for me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
