I'm going to the movies with some friends tonight (first real outing since surgery) and it got me thinking about movie popcorn and other Snacks. I usually don't buy snacks at the movies because they too expensive, so I usually go without, but if I wanted to bring my own snack what could I bring? Or is it best to just go without? Advice for all stages would be appreciated.

Since you are only 10 days out, aren't you still on liquids? In that case, my favorite snack-a bottle of water! Or mix up some Crystal Light for flavor. A Protein Shake, juice, a popsicle. Most things would require refrigeration. Good luck and enjoy the movie!

Yeah, see that's the problem. I'm on full liquids/ soft foods. Doc said I could start soft foods Friday or Monday, but call first and seeing as I didn't call him today, I'm still on full liquids. Most things I eat now do need a fridge, so I guess I'll go without tonight.

candy tends to go down easily...especially those you can suck on and let dissove in your mouth.

Milk Duds

Whoppers

Peanut M&Ms

etc.

I've slimed up nachos, popcorn, sour patch kids.

When I go to the movies now, I don't get anything. Not because of the band but costs. I told the kids that movies are out from now on OR we can go but get no Snacks.

I have read that the people who have the best success with the band are those who eat three meals a day and limit snacking. Based on that I have decided no more movie Snacks (sob).

I am not a big snacker, so I usually stick to Water. But! I have also popped into my purse a 60-cal SF Jello pudding snack or a small bit of cheese if I am feeling hungry and I know it will be awhile before mealtime. Better that than some of the other choices.

If you are going to be eating it within a half hour or so, and you aren't hiking there in the Vegas heat, you shouldn't experience any issues with refrigeration (or rather, lack therof).

I have also debated on picking up a grilled chicken salad at one of the cafes nearby and just carrying a large purse! Then I can have my meal, forget the Snacks, and enjoy the movie.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
