Are you banded? If you are hardly getting any Protein in, then you are putting your health and possibly your life at risk. Please call your doctor and discuss your nutrition needs with him/her.

I was banded a year ago and I am doing great! However, i recently had some blood work done during a health fair and some of my lab values showed that i was Iron deficient. I know that it is becuz i dont eat enough protien. And yes, iron defiency can make you tired, cold, among other things. My doctor suggested i take an iron supplement. Multi-vitamins also have iron in them but i havent been real good at taking them in the past (shame on me). I know a dietican at work and she also suggested eating iron fortified cereals as a small snack.< /p>

Congrats on being banded.

Remember, you just had surgery. Your body needs to heal. I have read posts where it takes some a month to get back their energy. Sometimes you just have to force yourself to drink the shakes in order to get the nutrition your body needs. Putting it in the blender with ice helps to make it more shake/malt like. You can also purchase unflavored Protein powder (GNC carries it and I believe Walgreens) and add it to your Soups and other soft foods.

Protein is essential in helping your body heal.

I was just thinking the same thing, I started full liquids today and was full on less than 2oz of real thin cream of rice Cereal. I heard something about protien bullets but don't know too much about them.... I was told to get 60-80g of protien a day.... and I want to but can't....

I bought the unflavored Protein powder and in the first few days after being banded and was on full liquids, I mixed some skim milk with slim fast and a scoop of the unflavored Protein Powder. I went to GNC to get all my Protein stuff and bought a few of their shaker bottles (I LOVE those things!) and mixed it in that. I also bought milk that had a higher protein amount (something like 11 grams instead of 5). So, in just one 8 ounce serving, I got about half of my protein in for the day...just keep it near you and sip on it throughout the day. If you are "full" all day, perhaps you have more swelling than some?

Getting up and moving around also helped me...it made me want to drink more.

Hope this helps.

Protein bullets are cool! I bought some - they have 27 grams of Protein or you can get ones that have like 50 grams of protein in them. I'm further along (about a month out), so I mixed my bullet with some fruit punch, and I didn't even realize it was in there...I won't be doing that TOO often because of all the sugar that is in fruit punch, but it helped.

The bullets come in a container that is probably 2-3 ounces and you can do them like a shot (only obviously slower since you're banded and there is swelling)...

My son drinks vanilla ice cream flavored whey Protein for weight training from The Vitamin Shop, and he puts a dollop (maybe a teaspoon) of vanilla extract in with his powder and skim milk. He also grinds up some amino acid pills and adds them. I don't have a lap band yet, so I don't know the nutritional requirements for your stage, but I can tell you his shakes are delicious. It also sounds like you're filling to full to drink much, so hopefully you'll get to where you can hold down something.

freshstartprotein.com and "ids liquid protein". the freshstart ones have 42 grams of protein and i think i got the ids ones with 48 grams. i got the ids ones from Amazon.< /p>

My Doctor told me to stay away from the Protein bullet drinks. He said that they used to tell their patients to drink them, but they just found out that they use a very inferior protein, and you don't get all the amino acids you need from the protein. They told me to drink only Whey protein isolate. It's the best form of protein out there. It has all the essential amino acids. The other kinds of Proteins aren't as complete. They said the bullets are better than nothing, but try to only use them in a pinch. And not to make them your only source of protein.

Unflavored Proteins powders are everywhere. Try mixing them with nonfat yogurt and fruit (blend the hell out them, no chunks).

Kellog's Special K Protein waters are decent, and if you drank 5 of those a day you'd get 25 grams of Protein and only 250 cals. Not recommended for everyone, but they are a Water, not a thick liquid, and flavired well. Not too horrible overall if you watch how it all adds up.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
