Hi, I am excited to get started with my lap band however I ran into a very disappointing and upsetting situation with my kids. Both in their 30's and had a very negative reaction to my decision! They just dont understand why i cant do it on my own. Having yo yoed over 20 times in my life I feel I need this help to make a permeant change. Anyone else have a problem with family?:confused2:

Yes, I have a daughter and son who keep reminding me of the dangers of this surgery and can't understand why I can't just exercise and diet. The oldest daughter is all for me having this surgery. It makes it hard when everyone isn't backing your decision.

Sorry you're having these family issues. It's hard to tell with kids though. It might be their way of saying that they are worried about the surgery, that they love you the way you are and don't want to see you change, they don't understand why you want to change because they certainly don't see you as more than their mom, etc.

I remember, as a teen, one of my friend's mom was pretty pudgy. My friend wrapped her arms around her mom and said, "You're the perfect mom because when I hug you, you feel like a mom." (I'm sure her sentiment was heartfelt) Kids can be very weird about their feelings about their mothers. I hope you can find out why they aren't supporting your decision to get healthy. I also hope you can make them understand just how important this is to you, and that you want them to be behind you 100%.

Thanks, I know they worry but since they never had a weight problem they dont know how hard it is. We have to do what is best for us.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
