Calling all our May Bandsters! I know there are threads like this on the main page but I thought this would be good for those of us in May!

Have you started exercising yet? I know a lot of you are still recovering from late May surgery but I thought this would be a fun way for us to compare good ways to get out and work off more calories/fat!

Let's give suggetions of what to do...:)

What works for you...:rolleyes2:

Any pain?

What songs are on your iPod to keep you going!:biggrin2:

Can't wait to hear everyone's ideas!

I'm trying to get motivated. I used to excerise 5x's a week step aerobics until I began to get really heavy. I am doing the eliptical walker now but not as consistently as I need to (only 2x's last week). I'm trying to work my way up to 45 minutes so that I can go back to the step aerobics class. Doing the machines is boring so it's great you are taking a class!

Don't be discouraged your first few times going back to your work-out. Today was the first time I felt back to my old self on the elliptical walker. I am almost up to my pre-surgery 45 minute workout. I finally feel as though my energy & stamina is coming back. Plus I am going to begin eating soft solids this Wednesday!

I had started walking my mile again, then it got 95 degrees here. THEN I sprained my ankle. Going to call the gym at the hospital to see if I can set up time to exercise there. We get one month free, so between the heat and my injury hoping they can point me in the right direction.

I am a early May bander, however, I have been very cautious with the exercising. I did too much too early and disrupted the internal sutures 2 weeks out and it REALLY hurt. So I have been walking 1.5 miles. I was up to 4 times a week, then only made it twice last week also due to the 95 degree weather. I also attempted the elyptical last week - but stopped after 8.5 minutes when I felt some pain. I was wondering if anyone noticed me leaving the gym after 9 minutes! LOL! Anyways, that is where I am at. This week should be a much more productive week for me. Good Luck everyone!

I would LOVE to start walking again, but June in Tucson means getting up before the sun does at 5am or staying inside. I've been working out to this one show I found on Fit TV called Shimmy that's belly dancing. I LOVE it!!! I do it three times a day so I end up with about a little over an hour of exercise everyday.

I also get in my pool every other day and do a little "jogging" in there at night but I find I can only last about 10 minutes or so before the big incision site starts hurting.

I ordered a video called Turbo Jam before I was banded. I used to be able to complete the video, but it's tough!

When the scale stopped moving, I started moving! I began doing a VERY modified version and only 10 mins. Now I'm doing 30 mins and I can keep up. It's a 45 min video, so I'm taking my time getting back into the swing of things.

The greatest news is that the scale started moving again. I've lost 7 pounds since I started exercising! Nothing is more motivating than seeing the numbers get lower. Now I exercise everyday, so that I can Celebrate the next morning when I've lost weight.

I have been working on converting a storage shed I own into my own little gym. I bought a friends BowFlex and he delivered it yesterday. I also have a treadmill so I am planning on alternating weight training with cardio...I am super excited. (I am waiting 6 weeks to begin the weights though)I am two weeks out, and called today to get an appointment for a fill. The doctor I am using for fills will do one as early as 4 weeks out. I noticed for the very first time yesterday that I don't have any discomfort from my incisions.

Hi everyone - I was banded on May 27th and I started walking 3 times a week. However, I don't know if it's my band or my port that I have pain in. Sometimes it feels like somethings pulling away or even rolls down - has anyone experienced that feeling? I'm going to see the doctor tomorrow.

Hi - I have felt that feeling. It is not fun. Does it hurt really bad or just a little. It is most likely your port. Your port is attached to your ab muscles and as you move the port should eventually move right along with you. But as it heals is could be pulling away from your muscles until it is fully healed. That happened to me when I did too much to quickly and it was very painful. However, I do not feel it at all anymore. But it is always good to have it checked out. I did and it made me feel better for them to feel it and let me know the port did not flip and it would be ok. I just needed to give it more time to heal. Good Luck - hope this is helpful.

I am working out at least five times a week. I go to the gym at my job after work and I have been dedicated to my workout. I feel great after a good workout, but I have gained almost two pounds since I started. What's up with that? I have not had a fill yet and I am eating mushies which I guess is causing the weight gain. I am patient though and I know after I get my fill on June 26th the weight should start coming off again. Good luck everyone on your exercising.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
