I have read a few post of people using the magic bullet. I as replaceing all applicances do to a recent move and would like to know which would be better to get. I have my consult with the surgeon on the 23rd and fom what I've been told my insurance works quickly with the banding. What is the main things you use these for and how much do you use them? Any replies will help me with my shopping.

Hi Sherry-

I mainly use my mini blender for my mushie stage. I have a small one from hamilton beach. its way better than lugging out the normal size blender, and its less cleaning. my mini only has one button/speed, which is perfect, imo. it was $15.00 at Walmart. i didn't go w/the magic bullet only because i knew i was only going to use it during this stage and didn't want to spend more money. :rolleyes2:

I used the magic bullet for my mushie stage. I'm on summer vacation and am not relying on it much for smoothies and stuff like that but anticipate that I will use it once I start teaching again. I recommend it.

I have the little blender at work from Walmart....it is good for a small shake which I guess we should aim for....I can sometimes get carried away with the liquids and add too much and then I make a mess.....same with the magic bullet thing...my daughter loves them but I think I must add too much ice...

If you need a small one the 15.00 dollar one s good and can sorta crush up ice...

I also have a larger blender...I have burned up a few over the years! I have always loved Protein shakes for Breakfast....

I really never HAD a mushy stage I went from Clear Liquids to food according to my doc so I did not use the blender for mushies...

So, go with the $15.00 dollar one, if you need more later...you can always take the small one to work like I did...I am also taking it this weekend to a hotel as we are traveling and I can make my shake in the room in the morning...use their ice too!

Good Luck to you!

Hi Mom2Twins,

I've never had a Magic Bullet, but I was considering one until I read an entry here that said the Magic Bullet had only 250 Watts and it didn't always chew up ice cubes. I thought that was what it was mainly for...making smoothies. Anyway, I opted for a Sunbeam 3-speed for about half the price of a Bullet, and the Sunbeam has 500 Watts of power. Plenty to make good Protein drinks, even with ice cubes. I think the little food chopper would be nice for food, though, because it is a pain to try to get a small amount of pureed food out of the blender. I'd say your choice might be based on how much you will use a blender or Bullet in the future. If you won't be pureeing food, a blender would probably be the best long-term investment. It will be stronger and if you are making smoothies for the twins, there's plenty of room in the blender for a big batch. It's a thought, anyway. By the way, I'm a twin, too. It's a special bond!

I use my magic bullet with ice all the time, have had no problems. I love it because it has both small and big containers and the cup containers too so I can make separate smoothies and stuff for my mom and I or friends. It is very powerful too. I use it almost every day!:rolleyes2:

I burned up my full sized blender and went out intending to buy the Magic Bullet but decided to go cheaper with the Hamilton Beach mini blender ( $55.00 for the Magic Bullet vs. $13.00 for the mini-blender) It works just fine for mixing shakes and it did a great job last night when I pureed some chicken salad. I guess it depends on how much you want to spend and whether you think you need all the bells and whistles. The only extra convenience I see is that the magic bullet comes with different sized cups with lids whereas with the Hamilton Beach you only get one cup with lid.

I used my magic bullet before surgery to mix the Protein Shakes well. I relied on it for the mushy stage and I use it all the time for other things.... The cool thing is - the entire family can use it, it comes with mugs that you can blend and then drink from, you can put a special lid on it and heat your Soup after 'mushing' it - all right in the same container.... I love my magic bullet... (costco or Walmart has the best price).....

I bought an off brand "magic bullet" from Kohls, I think it was called Bella. Does all the same things as a magic bullet with all the cups and lids but $15 to $20 cheaper. I mix my Protein Drinks in in most of the time. The kid likes using it too. I was just banded and am still on full liquids, but I'm sure it will come in handy during the mushy stage.< /span>

Magic bullet. It is compact, and who wants to have a large appliance to keep on the counter, and who wants to wash a large blender container..............!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
