What size is your band?

Recommended Posts

Well I know I am getting in on this late but let me see if I can clarify. Not to blow my horn but I am an engineer and design irrigation systems for golf courses so the facts of Fluid passing through a pipe is somewhat familiar to me. I hope I don't bore anyone. The size of your stoma (pipe) has nothing to do with how much you can pass through it. The size has everything to do with the velocity in which the Fluid passes. Like a pipe the stoma could be overpressurized if more fluid is forced through it than what it can handle. With pipe we might see a burst if the PSI exceeds 150psi. With ther stoma we feel the overfilling and then the burst comes back up like a PB. So really the volumn of the Stoma has nothing to with how much you can pass but does equal into the equation when we consider friction losses because of the size of the pipe and the drag the Water can experience while going thru. If we exceed the acceptable friction loss then we get the backup and essentially do what we call in the field as a "Dead-Head." Now we can also consider the dynamic viscosity of the fluid as well and also considere it's temp. Example; Water at 32F has a dynamic viscosity of 3.732. Ok real boring I know.

the bottom line is that we don't have to worry about all of this with the human body. All we need to do is take small bites and chew slowly and throughly.

If anyone is still interested in measuring the volumn of a pipe then here is the formula.

V= PI*R2 * L

v = cubic feet of pipe

pi = 3.14159265 (3.14)

R2 = radius in feet squared

L = length in feet

now that I have put everyone to sleep......................can anyone tell me how to get my grass green and get rid of the crabgrass.

omg my head hurts.

See what you started with this thread?!!!!

It's really interesting though. I love Physics and Chemistry and all Sciences.

Of course, I love the Piano, but can I play it? NO.

Yep, my head hurts, too!

Jack you are absolutely right. I guess I should have stated that I was metaphorically speaking when using the pressure and dead head theory as in relation to the human body. Whereas in Water systems we receive our restriction from friction losses vs. flow rate and pipe size while the human body provides restriction based on stoma size and the time it takes for the body to process the Slurry.

I still have a brown yard with crab grass :-)

difficult to arrive at because so many factors are involved. The band is simply an adjustable orifice plate (restrictor plate). there is no volume to measure since the band is not in itself a receptacle. so through a restricter plate we would measure flow and again with so many different things be introduced into the system such as liquids and solids the measurable flow rate through the band is always a moving target.

...if you could compare for me the relative volume of a 9.75MM band vs a 10mm vs an 11mm....we have a low pressure system here...

some docs only use 1 size of band...they are also the docs that are most likely to band people under a certain BMI.

I have the band that holds 4CC of saline. There is a Vanguard band that holds 10CCs....I've heard this is more used with higher BMI patients.

It also comes down to what your surgeon wants to use. Some will decide once you're actually in surgery depending on the size of your stomach and the amount of "fat pad" around it.

LOL_Thanks Lynn- So what does a 4cc band hold? the same ? Are they actually both the same band just people calling them different names?

      Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

        Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

        Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
