Banded on Monday, how can i continue to do well????

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

After posting my "Words of wisdom" thread a couple of months ago, I just wanted to update everyone, I was banded on Monday the 9th and things are going well so far (lost 11 lbs during the post op diet). Able to stick to my liquid with no problems. I am down to taking my pain medicine once a day before I go to bed. I can move around, and go up and down the stairs; have been able to do since the day after surgery.

My main concern is that I am going on a cruise the first week in July, which is my 3rd week post op. I will be on the pureed phase of the diet. Should I bring a magic bullet and puree healthy things i might come across on the cruise? I plan on bringing my shakes and im not usually tempted. The only thing im struggling with is the fact that I will not be able to eat potatoes until October! I can give up anything, but potatoes? Thats asking a bit much, lol. From reading the different threads, weeks, 3-5 are the period of bandster hell, where im pretty much healed, but there is no restriction since I will not have had my first fill. I would hate to be in that position when on the ship there is unlimited food.

Oh, well. I am still positive and excited to begin my new journey. As always, I am still looking for those words of wisdom.

Look forward to your replies. Thanks!

Hi I got banded on MONDAY June 2 and I will be on mushy food starting next week. the first food I plan on having is Mashed Potatoes! They never said I couldn't. The only thing I have been told to stay away from is pork for the next 6 months because it is hard to digest.

Hi. I am just banded (June 5th) and we are gong on a cruise the end of August. I decided today that I will take my majic bullet to make a Protein Drink every morning. We can order up fruit and milk to mix in. I will still be on mushies, so I am looking for Soups, masked potatoes, soft vegetables. I really am not worried about. I have always found the dining rooms SO acommodating! Good luck and have fun.

I've never heard that you can't eat potatoes, you could always try sweet potato instead right? As for taking a hand blender, on cruises they usually have buffets which would include Soups right? I suppose at that point your going to be sick of soups though so you could always ask for them to blend it for you, they may charge you or they may not, but I would definetly ask them if they could

I'm glad you are feeling better. I have been on two cruises in the last two years, my experience is that they will do almost anything you ask them to. If you let them know that you are on soft food diet (mushies) they might even blend your food for you. The cruise lines are all different but I had no problems with the special requests from my children or my diet being pre diabetic. I was also impressed with how easy it is to not overeat on the ship. If you are not really hungry there ia always something else to do that doesn't involve food, just check the schedule every morning. On the cruie line that I was on they also had a fitness club of sorts that you earned points for doing the workouts (swimming, wall climbing, etc) and at the end of the cruise your points could be traded for fitness souviners. Have fun, and good luck!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
