i didnt have a cathata but i wish i did.. i know that sounds weird but the first night i was in a lot of pain and i had to pee every 30 min from the iv giving me fluids and it was really painfull to keep getting in and out of bed, which i couldnt do myself so i had to keep calling the nurse.. so dont worry if you have one in you wont even know it is there.. i had two c-sections and had one each time and i really didnt even feel it.. good luck with your surgery!!

If we are talking about a bladder catheter then I didn't have one for either of my surgeries. One surgery was in Mexico and the other was in California. Neither required a catheter. I don't think it is absolute you have one. The surgery is fairly short and putting one in just doesn't make sense to me unless you have some unforeseen issues that make putting one in necessary.

You should really check with your doctor about the catheter.

This was the scariest thing about sugery for me believe it or not. Yes I did have a catheter, a Foley I believe (it stays in with a little nub inside you). It was put in while I was under, so the only pain I endured was when the less than slick night nurse started tugging on it and made me bleed inside. Also, make sure that everyone watches that tube when you are walking around! That hurts as well. Lastly, having it removed was painful but I breathed a sigh of relief.

In any case, I was most worried about the pain of the thing going in, but, like I said, I was under when they did it. No big deal.

I did not have it that I remember now it could have been inserted while I was under and taken out the same way.

I didn't have one. Doc said I'd only be out for about 25 min. Getting in and out to pee wasn't an issure either...I had to get moving anyway and it really helps ramp up recovery. Mamadiggs

Yes, I had one, they put it in while I was asleep, and didn't remove it till the next morning, it was my best friend. It didn't hurt at all, not even when they removed it!

No cathater for me or my DH. It's only a very short procedure... They just made sure I went potty before they gave me the sleepy meds

I had one with my first banding surgery. They took it out the following morning. I did NOT have one with my second banding surgery. It all depends on your doc. Either way, it's no big deal really.

I had one and had the nurse take it out because I was up and walking around and could make it to the bathroom. If I could do it all over again I would have had them leave it in because I had to get up three times at night to go pee and my night nurse was useless.

I didn't have one, unless they put it in while asleep and took it out before I woke, I am so happy I didn't have one, those things hurt, I had one in when I had my C-Section and boy did that thing hurt.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
