hopelives124 0 Posted June 12, 2008 I am new to the whole lap-band process. I just scheduled my surgical consult and just had my pychological yesterday. I am so looking forward to no longer doing this totally by myself. I want to lose 130 pounds but would be estatic with 100 ( I weigh 260 and am 5'4"). I would like to know specifically what others experiences are with ice cream and other sweets, because in addition to overeating that is what I struggle with the most. I was told that ice cream can be eaten slowly, but I was hoping that was not the case. How do people cope and not sabotage all the hard worK? Anyway, if the insurance company is not a royal pain, I may get a date by the end of the summer which would be great. I hope to hear back soon about the process. My surgery will be at NYU with Dr. Kurian. Please give me feedback on the ice cream and other issues for those further along! thanks!!!!!!

Trust me, it will be mostly up to you to choose the right foods and exercise. Stay away from ice cream because it goes down too easily. Remember this is no magic cure and the band is a tool that only you can work with. Good luck to you.

soon2be 0 Posted June 12, 2008 I had my psychological yesterday too! I am also very nervous about my ability to sabotage this program, just like I have done with every other diet I have tried. I hope this will be a tool that can help like nothing before! I am so nervous. Keep me posted on your progress. I should be scheduled before summer ends too! soon2be 0 Posted June 13, 2008 Hi, my doctor is Dr. Dean at the Bariatric Center. You have done great! It is so nice to read success stories like yours. I can't imagine that there is really something that will help me! Who was your doc? I have a friend who used Dr. Spivak in Houston. Talk to you soon!:rolleyes2:

I wouldn't have been able to do it without the band and I'm currently at a long plateau, kinda stressful but I'll push through. My surgeon's name is Ira Kasper. He's now retired, so I've just been going and getting fills by some doctors that took over for him. No support system from those doctors at all. Basically just a fill center. I'm completely filled in my band and have no more room for a fill so it's all up to me now. I know several people who were banded by Dr. Spivak. My mom was banded by Dr. Spiegel. soon2be 0 Posted June 14, 2008 That's great that you could share this experience with your Mom. My mom was always heavy, got sick, and now her medication has caused her to lose ALL the weight. I finished my dietician and nurse exam today, so now just waiting on the insurance approval. I think today when I was meeting with the dietician, it really hit me about how hard this is going to be. I have always just thought I would eat less of what I eat now, but it sounds way more difficult than that. IS IT?

You definately do eat less than before but there are too many ways to eat around the band. You just have to stick to your portions and watch what you eat.
