Hi! I'm a 30 yr. old sahm of 3 girls ages/ 6/ 3/ 1.5

As you can amagine I'm very busy w/ them! I've had a weight problem since 2nd grade. Done the yo-yo thing my whole life. I'm 5'2 & weigh about 210lbs. I am always tired, depressed,& my body just HURTS! I don't even know if the lap band is an option for me? Where do I start? My primary?

Thanks so much!

Hi - I recently received my lapband at Lahey Clinic in Burlington. I was 5'1 and 214 lbs and qualified by .4% so your probably right on the border. I would start by talking to your primary care dr. and he/she should lead you in the right direction. That is what I did. Hope this is helpful. Good Luck.

Hi, Heidi! I was just banded Tues. of this week. The rule of thumb for most insurances is that you are about 100 lbs. overweight for your height and a BMI of 40 or more. BUT, those numbers can be lower if you also have a co-morbidity (ex. high blood pressure, diabetes, etc.). are you self-paying or looking for your insurance to cover it?

Heidi:

I recommend that you take a look at my surgeon's website. It is glasgowandglasgow.com They are in Norwood and they are terrific. I know that they've banded people who aren't 100 pounds overweight because I've met them at our support group.

Check it out and go to a seminar to get informed on the procedure, etc. Glasgow and Glasgow have free seminars and support group. There might be a waiting list for the seminar, I'm not sure.

Good luck. I love my band!

Sue

I am not in the area, but I would suggest that if you go to your PCP and he/she is not on board, find another. Your team (PCP, surgeon, psych, nutritionist, etc.) should all be on board for the same goal. Good luck!

Thanks for your input! I did call my PCP today for an appointment. There's no way I can have thid done if my insurance doesn't cover it!:rolleyes2: I have blue cross Mass. I saw that they will cover if you BMI is 35 & up w/ health problems OR JUST 40 BMI.

I just saw that you have blue cross. I have bcbs too. I didn't even have to go to my primary care doctor with Dr. Glasgow. His terrific office staff put through all of the paperwork and set up all of the appointments for me.

Good luck.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
