I am a stay at home Mum married to Alan my lovely Michigan hubby... I have to lose about 10 stone :frown: I am new to all this and would like for someone please to help me avoid all those pitfalls and to guide me to success please. My hobby is going to America and visiting Disneyworld! Yay! Been 4 times and going again in 2009. I do have a goal this year though... I want to be able to fit into a plane seat comfortably because I have three weeks in Mexico coming up in September... so I have/want to do this. Thank you for reading XXXXXX Helen X BTW I forgot to say... I am 45 years young!

Hi -

I would be happy to help but it may be difficult if you are having the surgery in the UK. I suspect that their approach/policies will be quite different than here the United States. Medically, it should be quite similar, but, you know, after reading some of the posts here in the States, it is also being done differently.

Incidently what is 10 stone? Can you put that in either pounds or in metrics? Live and learn!

Do you have a surgery date?

Thank you for replying. I am recovering from my non op :cursing: I went for surgery on Friday morning and they discovered my liver is too big, even though I was on a low carb high Protein diet beforehand. Will get back to you again at the moment I have to rush off and joy of joys get my slimfast drink ready... it's my only highlight of the day right now... lol...

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
