what about the band once you've lost the weight?

Recommended Posts

I there anyone who can advise me what life is like ( re eating habits) once you've lost the excess weight? does the band need to be as tight as it always was or can i be loosened a little? I dont want to carry on losing weight past my goal and dont understand how it all works with the band still in place. Also, if the band is loosened a little after losing the weight would you be able to have a bit more lee way with the food s you can eat? Not that I am intending to go mad or anything, that woukld be pointless, just would I have to be as rigid with my food choices?

Any comments would be appreciated

hello. well the advise i was given. befor and after my surgery. was that the band fills would stay the same after you lost the weight. once its gone and your down to your normal body weight. you wont lose no more and you still keep the same fill in the band. it will keep the weight from coming back. because if you have the band lose after weight loss. it will all come back on. hope this helps.

Pretty much the same as while I was losing weight. I've not had an unfill, I eat the same as I was whilst losing, only thing is my weight loss has trickled to very very slow (I think I've lost 3 lb over the past 2 months). I still exercise for an hour most days.

I dont worry *so* much about things like having a glass of wine at night, I probably eat marginally more calories than I did, but whether you want to look at it as a "diet" or a "lifestyle" the truth is you have to eat like this forever.

Your band works in conjunction witht the fat/muscle around it to stay tight. As you lose weight, your band will loosen; that has already happened to me once, and I believe it has happened again, as the more I exercise and my body composition changes the more I am able to eat (not a lot more, just more than when filled the second time).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
