I don't want to be sick, but I need to lose weight. I have back problems and my family has a history of heart disease and diabetes. I know that if I lose the weight I will feel better and prevent a lot of health problems in the future. Please tell me about why people get sick and throw up. Throwing up, or PBing (productive burping) is the result of either careless eating habits (taking a bit bite and swallowing it without chewing enough, so it gets stuck), or having too much Fluid in your band so nearly all solid food gets stuck. Either way, the solution is a simple one. A) Take small to tiny bites and chew well, paying attention as you eat, and :bored: Get some Fluid removed if it is too tight. Too much fluid in the band will slow your weight loss, just as too little will. Many bandsters PB rarely if at all. Learn all you can, and educate your family so they won't be so scared. And you don't really "get sick", you just pop out the offending piece of food, which still tastes like food and not like vomit! Hope this helps. Keep asking questions! That's what we are here for. One of my co-worker is also getting the surgery done, except her doctor recommended gastric bypass. She is trying to convince me that lab band surgery does not suppress appetite so it is very hard to lose weight via this type of surgery. She had a friend who did the lab band surgery last August and only lost 8 pounds so far (for about 6 months). She strong recommends me to do the bypass as well. My question is that after the lab band surgery, when you crave for sweets and carbohydrates again, will just 2 or 3 bites of the sweets satisfy you? In another word, even if you sneak on some sweets, you will not be able to eat as much as before, right? Does the band makes it much easier to lose weight than any other non-surgical methods (diet drugs: Xenical, Hoodia, Diet system 6, Jenny Craig etc)? Over a 10 year period, I went from a healthy 145 in my 50's to over 200 in my 60's. In the early years of weight gain, I cut out my daily ration snickers bar totally. After some years went by w no sweets, I noticed one day I no longer craved sweets, but could hardly tolerate them, except after a meal. Goes same for carb craving--w lap band in 9/14/10, I have cut out breads, starchy stuff & do not crave that either anymore. My point here is, those cravings can go away & just say no. (I stopped drinking sodas & sweet drinks years ago also.) Look at your future at what you will eat, & not all the stuff you won't. Strawberries are really sweet, add sweetner, cut them up & have at the end of a meal or for a treat. Look for healty substitutes for all the snack stuff & you'll overcome that craving.
