I recently got a surgery date - July 2. I was really excited at first, but now I am scared as the date gets closer. I'm sure this is a normal, but would like someone to let me know if they felt the same way. Not sure if I am having second thoughts or just cold feet. I think just cold feet...

The forum is great! I love reading all the posts and it gives me hope and encouragement.

I had a little bit of cold feet about a week before my surgery. Then I remembered all I had to go through to get to that point and remembered how I felt when I got a surgery date. I was banded 8/07 and have never once regretted it. I have lost 120 pounds since then. Surgery is always a little scary but just keep in mind the long term goal!! Good luck!!!

7_5_142.gifWelcome Barb...what you are feeling is perfectly natural. I think almost everyone has had these feelings of cold feet...did I make the right decision...will I do good... This is all normal. Good luck on your journey. Keep us posted on your journey, and remember any questions just come and ask!

I have heard on here that this is what just about everybody feels like at some point. My surgery is June 27th, and I cannot tell you how many times I have questioned it. Getting the band has been a 2 year battle for me and yet I still question if I'm doing the right thing. It really scares me because I have never had surgery before. What your dealing with is perfectly normal. Just read all these success stories and you'll know your making the right decision.

Hi I to am getting banded in July. July 15th to be exact. I wanted July 2nd but they coudln't get me in. I am having all the same feeling as you. I am scared, happy, and nervous all at the same time. I want this waiting to be over. You jump through all the insurance hoops, than you wait for approval, than you wait for the surgery! I am tired of all this waiting but I know in the end it will be worth. So just hang in there. We can be nervous together since we are going to be banded around the same time. Keep me posted.

I totally started having fear once I got my surgery date. I kept thinking (ridiculously) that if i died I'd be soooo embarassed. However, the one thing that made me realize how much I wanted it was that one week before my scheduled date, my insurance (UHC) asked for more documentation after they had already approved. When I was scrambling to get my approval back, I got to experience how I would feel if it DIDN'T happen and that put it all in to perspective for me. I really wanted it, risks be damned!

All went well with my surgery and all will go well with yours as well!

My surgery date is July 1st and I am having the same feelings of anxiety. Everytime I think about it, I get a few butterflies in my stomach, however, I then look in a mirror:rolleyes2:

I, too, have a date for my lap band surgery....July 1st. So far, I am not too nervous about it. I've been through open gallbladder surgery in '85 and a triple heart bypass in '05...so this isn't as severe as those were. I am so ready for this, and I'm sure the closer my date gets, the more nervous I will be. But look at the results of this surgery for us....a healthier and thinner life!

I start my pre-surgery 2 week- 800 calorie diet this coming Sunday. So much for a big Father's Day dinner! We will Celebrate the day before on Saturday.

Good luck on your surgery!

Susie

Thank you all for your support! It's comforting to know that I am not on this journey alone. I don't know anyone personally that had the lap band done, but now I feel that I have so many new friends that understand what I am going through. Thanks Again!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
