Dr. Moran / Raleigh NC

Recommended Posts

Has anyone used him or heard of him? I know Dr. Enochs gets alot of the credit regarding this surgery, but I'm just NOT impressed with his office. They NEVER return my emails OR my calls and it's just getting frustrated.

They got my $500 co pay and I can't get anything else from them so I'm considering going to Dr. Moran and seeing if I can get better service.

Any opinions?.....

Hey Melissa,

Do not know him. But if you want my 2 cents, if you can't get a call back now, it is likely that will not get better with time. If you have problems, or issues, it's not something you need to deal with. The first surgeon I had gone to had great recommendations, but the entire time I spoke with him, I felt like I was being rushed through. If you are getting a feeling that you are not getting good responses, you probably are not. Find another surgeon. Just my opinion, as I said, never heard of the guy.

Regards,

Papa Bear

I am sorry to hear your experience, but I believe that you will find Dr. Enochs (as a physician and experience) to be far better. I actually went to Dr. Moran and had a horrible experience with him. He is stiff and very cold natured. Immediately I went to Dr. ENOCHS' seminar and found him more personable. I would call the office and ask for Lisa, his nurse or email her direct at llong@surgerync.com. She will definitely take great care of you. Best wishes! Hugs :rolleyes2:

I registered moments ago and this is my first post. Im new to NC having moved from FL. Had surgery 1/3/08 by wonderful surgeon in FL. Before I moved he looked up on lapband .com for me and wrote down Dr Morans name as he said he was the only one that had the yellow and blue symbols on their listing and he said I should make sure I pick a new Dr that had the blue symbol as that means they have done more surgeries.

I dont have an appt yet but they do have my records.

So now Im confused as what to do after reading others posts. Dr Enoch sounds wonderful and staff better too, and he is closer to me...but my last Dr said to pick someone with the blue symbol on the lapband list. Plus Moran now has my records.

I hate the thought of dealing with rude inefficient cold staff though.

Celtic, I guess everyone is different. There are certainly those on here that LOVE Dr. Enochs, but I just didn't get that. When I went to his seminar, Lisa was great and I enjoyed Dr. Enochs, but after that, AFTER I paid my money, it was downhill from there.

I recently have looked for a surgeon to do my surgery. I work at REX and I've heard good things from the nurses. From what I hear Dr. Moran is not very personable. Dr. Enochs is much more then Dr. Moran. The OR manager I work with is going to do some investigating and find out more information.

Previously, I was looking into Dr. Kenneth Mitchell Jr. in Pinehurst. However I learned that his mortality rate is 4% and that kind of freaks me out.

I plan on attending the seminar next month.

Anyone who has any thoughts specifially on Dr. Enochs, let me know!

Hi,

Dr. Moran did my surgery in Nov 07 and my husband's in Dec 07. He is an excellent surgeon and very knowledgeable. His beside manner is a little dry and conservative, but he does come around and have a sense of humor. It's truly what you make it.

This is truly a personal decision to make, but if I had to do it all over again, I would still chose Dr. Moran. He is incredibly skilled and efficient and is making breathroughs in this area and is beginning to train other physicians on how to perform the surgery. He is committed to you and takes a conservative approach to make sure if possible you can avoid, all the pbing, sliming and not so glamorous things that come along with the surgery. I must say I have been able to avoid these things.

Intially, I thought his staff didn't have it together, but I was mistaken. They have gone the extra mile, over and over and it doesn't stop at the surgery. They are always available, and run the monthly support group. Dr. Moran, recently hired a PA to assist him and now has a nutrionist that comes weekly to the office. They are also about to expand in their current location, to accomodate the growing practice.

I support Dr. Moran and his staff. If you feel uncomfortable, let him know that, he responds and is genuinly interested in your well being. At any rate, good luck to you and don't count Dr. Moran out.

Everyone can have their own opinion but Dr. Enochs trained everyone is in my opinion the best. Even NBC sponsers Dr. Enochs if you go on their website NBC17, Breaking News, Local News, Weather, NBC17, Raleigh Durham Cary Chapel Hill - NBC 17 under health or something. As long as you are comfortable with your decision. Dr. E is for me the best since I've had not so good experiences with Dr. Moran and heard the follow up care is horrible. UTUBE Dr. Enochs and see what others say! Best wishes...!

Just my two cents worth but I was banded on 9-10-08 and it was done my Dr. Moran. Yeah, he's not full of warm fuzzies but then I'm looking for a surgeon not a new best friend. I've not seen him that much but what I have seen of him I like. He's very professional and very good at what he does. When I went in for my one week check up I saw his PA and I totally adore her!! The office staff is very friendly and helpful.

When I decided to have this surgery my PCP recomended Dr. Moran and Dr. Enochs. I want with Dr. Moran because an aquaintance had had her band done by him and she liked him.

If I were you I'd go to one of his informational seminars and see what you think. His PA and I were talking about surgery and some of the differences between Rny and Lap band and she mentioned that most of his practice is now lap band. I'm not sure about Dr. Enochs.

My advice is to go with who you feel most comfortable with and you'll be most satisfied.

I paid my money to Dr. Enochs, have seen the counselor, dietician, etc. but have not been pleased at all with the staff. I was wondering if I have too high an expectation. A friend of mine had gastric bypass surgery last week by Dr. Enochs and her experience has been a very different one. She is very pleased.

I had my initial consultation in August. At that time, the insurance specialist flat told me I wouldn't qualify. I asked her if there was any recourse and she said, "yeah, self pay." Since then I have been pursuing getting documentation from various sources to support my claim on my own. After not hearing ANYthing for a month, I called. I was told that they had faxed a request to my doctor for labs but he had not responded. My question is why the request was dropped. I waited another 2 weeks and had not heard from them and called and was told that they had refaxed it and not gotten a response. I still question why my PD was not called or no one called me. I called my PD, got the lab results, faxed them to Dr. Enochs myself. After another 2 weeks, I called yesterday and was asked if I was ready to have the information submitted. I thought that it was their job to get the information together and tell ME 1) what would help with the insurance and 2) when the information was ready to be sent. I do not have a good feeling about getting the insurance to accept my claim because I do not think that the information will be presented in a way that is beneficial to me. JMO I regret ever putting the time and money into Dr. Enochs and wish now I had just gone to Duke.

macband,

There is one thing you have mentioned a number of times in various threads regarding Moran vs Enoch that does interest me.

You said that, if I may paraphrase, that the follow-up and/or results are quicker and better with Enoch. Do you have any objective reference for this information or is it simply anecdotal? I currently am inclined toward Moran right now based upon credentials and him being in the insurance network.

However, if you can site a source other than yourself that Enoch's "results" are actually better, than this sounds like an objective statement on your part for which you should be able to site a reference apart from "friend of a friend said" type thing.

I purchased a medical background check on Moran and it was clean (don't take my word for it, purchase your own if you doubt) and did not see anything that I might question on his background. He's had no disciplinary actions or catastrophic results or anything like that.

this is my first time posting. I am considering thelap-band and started the process with Dr. Moran in Nov. In Dec. I went to all the appointment/tests ordered by his office - the first of Jan I met with nutritionist and psych in his office - I have never heard another word from his office. I called in March and left a voice message with Michelle to say that I had not had any response and wondered what was going on - I have still had no response from his office - Has anyone else had this issue.... I am considering going over to Dr. Enoch's. Thanks for any advice.

I am dealing with Dr. Enochs office and the experience has been wonderful. Here lately I have been talking with Angelica at his office and she is very good about returning calls and keeping you in the loop of what is going on. I would give them a call. At my general doctor he has had numerous patients who have gone to Dr Enochs and all have had good experiences. Good Luck to You!!!!!

Again, I had a terrible experience with dr. Enochs office. I really wanted him to do my surgery but Angelica was not only not helpful but a barrier to my getting the surgery there. I did complain and got my initial $400 back. I got so frustrated with Angelica who was incredibly rude not only to me, but also to an attorney (Walter Lindstrom) who wanted to help me out with the insurance denial. I decided to go to Duke. I had my first appointment on 12/22/08, preop on 12/29/08, insurance approval on 12/31/08 and surgery on 2/19/09. Additionally, Dr. Portenier decided that I might have sleep apnea and was right. I now use a a cPAP machine and actually have energy. I have found Duke to be more thorough and more professional than Dr. Enochs office in many, many respects.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
