Caren 0 Posted May 1, 2005 I'm 9 weeks post surgery and just had my first "slime" episode today...I guess thats a PB. I can't find anything to tell me if I should do anything or avoid anything in particular. Do you have to go back to liquids? Or proceed on with normal if your feeling okay? I'd appreciate any advice....Thanks
the best me 6 Posted May 1, 2005 Hey Caren, do liquids or are least soft mushies through tomorrow. If you slimed, then something stuck enough that it surely irritated the area, and very soft foods are in order. Regular foods can get stuck if you are swollen and cause more swelling, and round and round you go. Give your tummy a little break, you'll be back in no time. What'd ya eat? Caren 0 Posted May 1, 2005 Thanks...no food came up, but definitely the slime trail I've heard so many talk about. I will take it easy. We were at our outdoor market and today was latin day for cinco de mayo. I took a bite of a small beef taco made authentically with the homemade tortillas. It felt like my chest was caving in....it was a soft corn tortilla, but the homemade ones are very dense. I've never had a problem with anything...eyeopening. La_madam 20 Posted May 2, 2005 My Dr. requires 24 hours of liquids after a PB, I did not take his instructions very well and had a horrible PB which then resulted in a terrible case of Esophagitis for 2 weeks where all I could do was liquids. , so now I do the 24 hours of liquids after a PB, I do not wish esophagitis on my worst enemy. Sometimes a PB can be a vicisous cycle if you do not go on liquids since a PB can cause swelling in the esophagus, if you try to eat again later or the next day there is a higher chance of PBing again. PB, eat, Pb eat..vicious cycle. If it were me I would do liquids for 24 hours. PS. tortillas are one of the only things I can not and will not eat ever again unlees they are fried. I had a horrible PB on a bite of a tortilla from a burrito. Never again will I eat a tortilla!
Caren 0 Posted May 3, 2005 thanks for the suggestions. as I said, that was my first slime episode. I've had the horrible pain twice before...once on two big a bite of tuna fish and once on a dry piece of warmed up chicken. I think I didn't chew them enough. But the slime episode was EXACTLY horribly like I had read it would be. cgrubz - it is when you eat too big a bite, don't chew something well enough or eat something that sticks like glue (my soft tortilla) in your pouch or stoma and your body during the most horrible pain starts producing slime or mucous to try and loosen it in your esophagus..it likely is spasming. You feel that you are burping or retching a little but all that comes up is slime or mucous. it pretty much feels like a mac truck is sitting square on your chest.
