No Info For After Surgery!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

Im having trouble with the thought of "after" surgery!! I have been flooded with informatino about the actual surgery and what the band does and fills etc, but im having a bit of trouble with the thought of "being on my own" to work out the food part of the band...

Does this make sense?:)

Your Dr. should have you speak to a nutritionist and provide you with detailed information about what to expect and what to eat post surgery. It's very important that you have this information prior to making the decision to have the band. I'm always shocked at home many people were not given the appropriate information necessary to succeed prior to having the band put in.

I love LBT but I really had all of the information that I needed through consults with my surgeon, nutritionist, and lifestyle meetings. I like that I can come here and see the huge milestones that people make and have ask questions and get immediate answers for people who are living with the band...but it's important that your relationship with your medical staff is well established.

I agree with LunaB, you need to talk to a dietician so you can fully understand what the post-band diet is. When I saw the dietician she showed me "plastic" food in the amounts I would be eating and it was a shock. I needed to deal with that as part of my decision to have the band. I am 2 weeks post-op and already feel happy with my choice and hopeful for my future. Good luck with your decision.

Yes. Make sure you get a prescription for pain medication and have some liquid Tylenol in the house. You also may want to get a liquid anti naseau medication from the doctor. Stock up on liquids, popsicles, Jello, broth and Water. You most likely will be on liquids for 2 weeks followed by full liquids, mushies and solids. It takes at least 4 weeks to move to a solid diet. The surgery itself was easy for me. I was only sore at the port site. I did have some naseau but the medication helped. Stick to the post op diet. It is very important not to move to solid foods too early. Good luck to you!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
