Hello and dont worry! I was banded on May 27th and experienced the same pain in my neck, shoulder, and arm. I thought I was having a heart attack or a stroke! But it does go away! I would suggest some sort of pain killer and time.( that is what i did) It was so severe I almost went to the ER but when I woke up the next morning it wasnt as bad as the night before and within a couple of days it was completely gone! Good luck and keep strong!:)

I was banded in September and I had the exact same kind of pain you described. It was so bad that I left work early! The good news was that it did go away! It just was REALLY uncomfortable for awhile. I still get shoulder pain now and again but it is nowhere near what the pain the first month or so after surgery.

7_5_142.gifLay on the bed with your feet against the wall and bring your feet towards your chest. do it several times.. that was what my dr. told me if the gas got really bad. I did'nt have a lot of gas but I would roll 1 shoulder then the other then both together about 15 times. good luck and Welcome to your new journey!

Dont worry the pain will eventually go away. I took a warm compress and placed it on my shoulder and neck when the pain got to bad. I also was given liquid tylenol with codiene which really helped with the pain. I would advise to drink chamomile tea because for some odd reason it really makes you feel good and relaxes the body. My pain was totally gone within 6 days after surgery. Just hang in there!

i would soak in a warm bath with my head and shoulders resting in the Water and my knees bent (but only deep enough so the Water could not reach my incisions since it is not good to get them very wet). My husband would follow up with a little massage which really helped.

My neck/shoulder pain lasted 5-6 weeks and was pretty intense. There were a couple of weeks where the bath/massage combo was a daily occurrence. It has since gone away leaving only an occasional twinge if I get overfull.

Thank you all so much!!!!!! The advice is great and the encouragement is wonderful! I think we were surprised by the amount of pain the gas would cause. Hopefully it will be behind us really soon and we can help others get thru this part too! I don't know what we'd do without this message board!

Hopefully next time I post it will be postive news!!!

Thanks again!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
