Emotional Experience

Recommended Posts

I had my first post-op visit today. On the day of surgery, I weighed 259. I was terrified that I wouldn't lose weight this week. Although I stayed perfectly on track with the liquids, I was worried. I have this little voice in my head that keeps trying to tell me I can't be successful.

Well, when I stepped on his scale, I weighed 244! That's 15 pounds. I broke down and cried. I think I have been given a great gift and I am so grateful. I am going to work with my band and guard my pouch like Fort knox. Now I can begin to believe that I can do this.

This board has been a blessing and I am so happy I can share my good news. I hope those considering the surgery will look at people like me and see that there really is hope and if you follow the plan, you will lose.

Hi Mary in Las Vegas (lucky you! I love Vegas), congratulations! I am so happy to hear you are doing so well. I will be having my surgery on July 24, and when I weighed myself this afternoon, that is exactly how much I weighed! I have lost 11 pounds since I got my surgery date just trying to eat healthy. I imagine I will cry to when I hit 244. I can't wait to hear about your progress. I will be joining you soon in Bandsville.

Mary, Congrats!!!! I had one of those cool moments yesterday. Right before I had the surgery I had an endocrinology appointment. The follow up was yesterday. The nurse called me back and took my vitals...weight, blood pressure, pulse....the usual. I was sitting there and he started to enter the information in the computer...he stopped and said, "I need you to step back on the scale." I said ok...even though I knew he was concerned about the weight difference from the first appointment. I said to him, it was correct then, and the weight is correct now...because of Lap-band. "OOOhhhhhhh..." was his reply...37 pounds and counting.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
