Will the surgeon operate if I have allergies?

Recommended Posts

Hello! I'm only 2 days away from being banded and I am going crazy with worry. I have sniffly sinuses which have caused me a slight sore throat from drainage at night. I know that it is from the A/C blasting at night and sleeping with my mouth open, but I'm still scared to death that I'm going to drive 7 hours to the doctor and be turned away for surgery.... after 2 weeks on a preop Clear Liquids diet. Will the surgeion operate if I have allgergies?:tongue2::smile:

I'm not sure about that. You could just ask a hypothetical question to the doc to see what are his rules. At least you're not like me...I'm allergic to clear tape that they use to cover IVs and things of that nature. How strange of an allergy is that! LOL

Just thought I would tell you that to make you smile. LOL I hope it worked. I know it does me. Don't stress out just ask your doc and see what happens. Worse case he may delay your surgery for a week.

I am sure you'll be fine. I had a cold the day of my sugery and their response was .... were putting tubes to your lungs we dont need your sinuses lol

Make a quick call to your doc today and ask if they postpone surgery when their is sinus issues caused by allergies.

Just make sure you dont use allergy meds without asking them.

I had the same thing. All they checked was my temp and it was fine. If you feel like it could be anything more than allergies, I would ask my GP before going all the way to Mexico.

:tongue2: thank you all... I just feel like a nervous bride before her wedding! I should be thoroughly cleaning my house (MIL coming for the summer)before my surgery, but I can't stay off of the blogs and video journals about LB.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
